Jordan, have you considered moving to northeastern Nevada?  The gold mining industry is booming, and mining companies are crying for people:  trades, labor, professional, technical, you name it.  Newmont Mining Corp. and Barrick Gold Corp. are the two biggest, and both have websites where you can see job openings, etc.

Advantages to living in northeastern Nevada:  no income tax, abundant riding on BLM and USFS lands, few people (Elko County is the 4th largest in the U.S., but has only 45,000 or so residents, not as hot as southern Nevada, etc.  Housing is a bit more expensive than some parts of Utah, but certainly not as expensive as Vegas, Reno, etc.

Check it out!

We bought a policy from State Farm for our Prowler.  Annual premium is $282.00, and there is a $100 deductible.  However, we only bought "Physical Damage Coverage," not the complete liability, etc.  After that nasty little incident in the arena in Moab, we submitted a claim, so I am sure that our premium will go up!  However, State Farm didn't even blink when the claim was submitted.

Hope this helps.

The one I downloaded was complete, and had the enhanced features like click on the topic and you go there.

#4 Re: Where to Ride? » Harlan KY » 2008-05-29 20:44:07

While in Moab at the 2008 rally we met a number of people from Kentucky, and they all spoke highly of the riding in Harlan County.  Sounds like the local people, including the mayor of Everts, are very supportive of the off-road community.  We hope to make a trip there in the next few years. tongue

FWIW, we have had our Prowler for 10 months, and put almost 1100 miles on it.  I think it performs every bit as good as the Rhino or Ranger, but I can add that in snow it is better simply because of higher clearance.  Workmanship is very good, and while there are a few things I would do differently if I were building it, I honestly believe the same could be said for all the machines.

The UTV world is developing rapidly, and as with most vehicles, there are different styles/types.  I would say the RZR is more of a sports machine, the Mule a truck, and the Rhino, Prowler, and Ranger in the middle.  I haven't been around the Teryx enough to be sure, but it seems to be similar to the Rhino/Prowler/Ranger crowd, but more powerful.

The Ruesch machines did great in Moab, but I haven't driven one yet.

The best advice was already given:  drive a few, and see what suits you best! big_smile

#6 Re: General Arctic Cat Prowler Discussion » Windshields » 2008-05-29 20:13:14

Hey Dan;

We have one of the Arctic Cat half windshields, with the airfoil lip at top.  It does a pretty good job of keeping the bugs and wind off our faces, but it does create a back-draft that pulls dust into the cockpit.  I built doors for our machine, and these really help reduce the dust.  Also, while in Moab we spoke with another Prowler owner, who suggested pinching foam between the front end of the dump bed and the back of the seats.  Will try this soon for additional dust reduction.

We also carry a roll-up generic UTV windshield, so that when the rain or wind get really bad we can throw this on, and it really helps.  However, it is that soft kind of plastic, so it distorts the view a bit.

I meant to ask Andre of Trail Armor about his windshield while in Moab, but forgot (he was busy helping me straighten a tie rod after I successfully guided my wife into a post while barrel racing).  FWIW, Trail Armor's Prowler skid plates did great!

Hope this helps.

Bob and Terry, It is good to see you on sidexsideforum!

I will be laughing about this for a long time! "I am almost old enough to own a Corvette, but with this UTV, no need!" lmao!

Does this look familiar?

Thanks for the entertainment on the barrel racing! If you dont know who I am I was the one that rolled after the barrel racing was over.   The events on Friday were a blast.  big_smile[/quote]

Thanks, Jared, for the reminder!  Glad I got to see you do the sidestroke, in between Andre's hammer blows straightening the tie rod!  Really loved the fist out the side of the machine, while it was on its side!  Down, but not out!

On the serious note, we had almost 100% positive experiences with the bicyclists, both on Porcupine Rim and Hell's Revenge.  Had a couple that didn't wave or talk, but we always gave them the right-of-way whenever we crossed their paths.  Pity that someone, regardless of whether they were in our rally or not, would be so rude on the trail.

Sense of humor indeed!  About $1200 worth!  Any way, we were not the smartest crew in the arena; heck, we have a tough time guiding one another hitching a trailer to the truck!

Kind of glad you didn't get video, would hate to see that on the web!

You are quite right, Badley.  No problems!  We can take the ribbing, for sure.  It was good to meet a lot of great people at the rally.  Everyone was courteous, helpful, and kept their egos to themselves.  What a blast!

Oklahoma Cat, I downloaded my 650XT manual from store.payloadz.com, for $5.99.  Maybe they have one for your machine.

This was our first UTV rally, and after this experience, it is definitely not our last.  Chris, Michelle, Kyle, and the rest did an absolutely outstanding job of organizing this event.  Even if the trails had been "just like home," which they weren't, the organization was fantastic.

The trails were, well, outrageous.  We had carnage, both on the trail and in the arena (gonna learn whoa one of these days), but no one got hurt, and the fun was out of this world.

This evening I saw Chris' appeal for all of us to post on the Moab newspaper website; done!

I am almost old enough to own a Corvette, but with this UTV, no need!

Keep on rocking, guys and gals!

Hi, we are Bob and Terry, and just joined the forum.  We rode in the second Moab UTV rally, where we learned about this forum.  We got our Prowler in July 2007, and we have been absolutely astounded by what it can do.  Moab took us to another level, and those somewhat snobbish  big_smile Rhino owners never had to doubt our machine!

These side by side machines rock, and we are anxious to continue to learn and experience them.
