#1 Re: The X Spot » roll cage metal » 2008-07-20 16:57:44

okay, I need to get a four person cage for my Teryx.  All I will do with it is trail riding with the family, no motocross style jumps or races.  I have seen cages made from either mild steel or DOM tubing.  I know DOM is better, but way more $.  For just trail riding where the worst that will happen might be a slow tip over, do I really neeed DOM or will mild steel be okay?

how did you  lower the seats 4 inches?  How much did it help the handling?  Is it tighter seating and legroom?

Any comments on one vs the other bone stock?  I am getting close to a deal and can get either for about the same price.
Comments?  The only real negatice I can see in the Teryx is te lack of EFI.

I actually spoke with someone from the awsomebuggys store, they said that this is a exact copy of the rhino, everything fits even engine parts, and that they offer a 12 month warrenty.  They also said that they have sold around 15 units since starting sales of this product.  Personally I think this one looks good, but that is at a distance, and I am not willing to risk 7000 to try it out.  I do not want to be out on a trail and roll it only to find out they used a inferior steel for the cage and get hurt.

I just finished watching the video, and I have to say it looks good, the question is still the reliability and quality.  For example, a feiend of mine just bought one of the go karts they sell, and he put it togeather and in less than 1 hour the shifter stopped working, one of the brackets was just made out of flimsy metal, end result he welded a reinforcement and is fine, but this is the type of thing that worries me.

at the risk of bieng cruxified, and fully knowing that they are apples and oranges.  why a rhino over a older samurai, a samurai can be had for 3000, the rhino 11000, that is a big difference that could be used for goodies and parts.  Also the sami is street legal.  Keep in mind I am buying a Rhino, but I need to settle this.

Hey Noisy  you have it wrong, it is not that anyone is biggoted it is just the past experience, up to now most of the chinese copys have been inferior quality when compared to the Japanese stuff.  I personally have owned a couple of small honda knockoffs for the kids and a pitbike for me, and I can honestly tell you the quality was terrible.  Now that bieng said, they are comming up in quality, there are a few companies that are really trying, but they have a ways to go to catch up.  Look at the past, when Hundai started bringng cars to the usa they were horrible, they sold because they were dirt cheap but they fell apart.  Now they offer 10 year warrenty and are decent quality, but they still have to fight the old image.

#9 Re: General Discussion about Yamaha Rhinos » wheels and offset » 2008-07-08 15:44:37

okay, again I will be buyig a rhino shortly and deciding what I need for it.  I want a bit more stability, and right now do not plan on long travel suspension for two reasons, first money, and second is width for transporting, I would need a new trailer and storage space.  So I am thinking of offset wheels and possibly spacers.  Good idea?  What setup works good and how wide can I go with a 5 foot wide trailer?

#10 Re: General Discussion about Yamaha Rhinos » roll cage » 2008-07-07 18:43:09

okay, I have decided to get a Rhino and I will want a rear seat.  How do the rear add on roll cages work, are they strong enough?  I will be using it on trails not racing.

sorry for your loss.  I am new to the side by side market, although I have been a dirt biker for years now, but how did she end up pinned under the cage if she was strapped in, was it her leggs?  I am only asking so I do not make the same mistake if it is preventable.

#12 Re: The X Spot » RZR or Rhino » 2008-07-04 19:48:14

one other thing I forgot I saw, somewhere mentioned that the rzr had real thin seats and that you felt the bumps and rocks more because of this.  Any truth?

#13 Re: General Discussion about Yamaha Rhinos » 12" or 14" Wheels » 2008-07-04 17:44:15

wouldnt the 12 inch wheels give a more plush ride, and 14 inch wheels a more stable ride due to less tire height?

#14 Re: The X Spot » RZR or Rhino » 2008-07-04 17:21:39

I know this probably has been covered, but, I am really lost and cannot do a test drive.  I do not own a farm and really will not use it as a utility vehicle.  I am a dirt bike rider who rides lots of trails, no moto cross.  I am looking to get a side by side to do trails.  I am leaning twords the RZR, but I have some doubts.  I do have two kids and a wife, but I do not know how much I really need to take them all out at once, I could probably live with a 3 seat bench.
Now, my questions, I have looked at both the Rhino and the RZR.  My take on the Rhino is that it would be great to add a rear seat, but it looks like the people sit up high and it looks very tippsy.  It also feels sluggish to me, all adding up to slow handling.  I know I can upgrade the suspension, but I will barely be able to scrape togeather the $ for one, let alone the extra $ to make the rhino into a long travel suspension.
I watched a Yamaha DVD yesterday and it compared the rhino to a RZR and of course they feel the rhino is better, but it did leave me with a few questions.  First and most important, they led me to believe that the RZR could not be locked into 4WD, even if it was set to 4WD it would drop to 2wd if the tranny felt it did not need it.  Is this true and is it an issue on the trail?  Second they make it seem like the RZR will always freewheel going downhill.  Is this true and is it a problem on the trail?
Help please

all I saw was the three person bench seat for the front?  Did I miss something?
