Hey Jake, Is the UTV Sportsman Stock Class Under 750 cc a new class for Bonneville (BOR)?
If I read this right all I need to do to race is have 4 point seat belt, Snell Approved helmet, Fire extinguisher
and a First aid kit on board.
Hmmm, very inviting...........
Yes the sportsman class is a new thing for BOR. And you nailed it on the head it is that simple to come race. Some 4 point seat belts, fire extinguisher and a first aid kit. I would also bring some water and food just encase you break down out their it may take a few hours for someone to come pick you up. Add a snell helmet and long pants and a long shirt and you are ready to have some fun.
I know I have offered this in the past but if anyone need help with getting ready for the race with safety gear of what ever I will help. I have tube benders welders Etc. and want more UTV's so let me know what you need help with and we can make it happen.
2011 Schedule
April 9th - UTV /ATV / Motorcycles .
This event will be co-Sponsored by the Sageriders M/C club. It also is a AMA national HARE-n-HOUND for the motorcycles and a 2 loop event for the quads and Side x sides. It will be around the Little Sahara sand dunes and Cherry Creek areas. It will be rougher with more whoops and less roads than a typical race at Wendover or Jackpot. There is no AMA fee for quads or SxSs this year! THIS WILL BE AN EPIC RACE FOR THE UTV GUYS! Little Sahara area has some of the funnest trails. This is the race you don't want to miss!
May 28th at Wendover NV
At present we have submitted a 124 mile loop that will start in the same place (7 miles south of Wendover NV)- the car/truck group will run 2 or 3 loops depending on class. The Bikes/Quads/atvs will run one loop plus having their own seperate loop to get mileage
July 9th at Jackpot NV
This will be a lot of the same course as past but the loop should be in the 60-70 mile range. We still (at the present time) have the daylight limitation so we will run the loops accordingly.
Sept 3rd at Ely NV
This will be the same Ely location as in years past. 250 miles.
October 15th - Poker ride - Wendover NV.

Opening or not that hood is UGLY!
I'd like to race mine but i live in minnesota. Nothing going on here[/b]
Their will be some racing going on again staring spring 2010. Watch borracing.org for info. You should make a trip even if its just once and you will see why we love the desert.
we was planning on going but had a funeral that couldnt be missed. next year for sure
Next year will be a blast!
Was your frame damaged in the roll over?
Some in the lower front a arm mounts. My old Rhino frame did the same thing. I think its a weak spot on all of the UTV's. Luckily its not hard to fix and improve where Kawasaki should have. Other then the fact I'm kinda burnt out from working on this thing, its not that bad. I priced out some of the plastic parts that broke today and I was pleasantly surprised how inexpensive they are. I have a front and a rear bent wheel but I also have a front and rear spare so I will be ok their for awhile. As you can see a new cage is in order as is a new front bumper. All in all the Teryx took her beating well.
I heard very positive comments from spectators and racers...
hopefully I will make it next year
It really was cool. And it will just keep getting better. Every one out their was so nice, I cant wait for the next race.
Just wanted to let every one know the race happened and was a blast. Their where only 4 UTV's that showed up and I was the only one to have a DNF. The course was a blast! Alot of fun for UTV's. It kinda suck their was really no interest in it. Great course low entry fee well planed plus it was just cool to be their and see the other trucks and buggies. I talked with the owner Allen at the race and it sounds like they will try and keep the UTV class open next year with maybe three different classes stock stock modified and modified. He said they had a ton of phone calls emails and all around interest but for what ever reason people just didn't show. So for any one interested in desert racing with BOR sounds like they will give us at least one more shot. Next race will be spring 2010.
And it starts again.
I didn't even get to race. My friend was driving for the pre run so I could mark the GPS and just past mile 10 we came over a double roller at what would be safe to call "speed" and the rear caught the second roller and put us into a front flip. We hit on the driver A piller first and then it all went fuzzy but from the distance from the rollers and where we ended up I would guess we rolled 3 times. We ended up on the passenger side. We both walked away with very minor injury's. I had a very small cut on my hand from not wearing gloves since I was supposed to be taking notes. The the driver Andrew had some harness burn on his neck I don't think his belt was as tight as it should have been.
It was a very disappointing way to start the weekend after all the time and money I had invested into racing this race. But like I was told 100 times at least one one was hurt.
Next race: WENDOVER 250 (Sept. 19 weekend)
Schedule:
Friday
* Registration and tech inspection will be Friday from 10:00 am to about 6:00 pm in the pits.
* Drivers meeting will be at Rainbow Casino's Convension Hall (thanks Matt) on Friday at 7:00 pm. Drivers meeting is MANDATORY.
* The pre-run will start at 1:00 pm on Friday. 25 mile per hour speed limit.
Saturday
* Late registration will be Saturday morning from 6:00 am - 10:00 am in the pits.
* UTV & ATV start at first daylight (7:00 'ish)
* Trucks & buggies start at 11:00 am.
* Award ceremony will be in the pits after the race.
This is the last race for the year. The next one will be spring. As far as a class for you it will not be UTV but maybe you can fit some where else. What does your buggy weigh? and what size and material is the frame? Their are fairly strict rules about that stuff. But remember racing can be hard on stuff so it needs to be built safe. Just download a BITD ( Best In The Desert ) rule book and see if you can fit any of those race classes and also see what you need to work on getting ready for next year.
Nice work! Like the way you tied in the rear bumper, should take a beating (not that you should test it ). I am curious about how you brace the roof... pics? Loving the progress pics, keep em comming 8)
next time I take pics I will snap a few for ya
