#1 Re: Events, Rallies, & Races » Wendover Nevada UTV Race ( Utah Racing ) » 2009-09-14 12:28:30

I'd love to race but I'm not sure there is a class for me.  I have a mini sand rail that I run knobbies on - similar to a Joyner Sand Viper 1100.  Here's the second catch - 3 kids under age 6 and a pregnant wife due in November and between jobs right now... not really a good time to pursue racing.  But I totally want to get involved eventually.  Would a winter race be possible?  Maybe out at 5 Mile Pass in 4-6 inches of snow?

Prize money or not - I'll get in at some point (if there's a place for me...)

OK very cool thanks for the input.

So this can not happen for this race but if their is some UTV's that show up and Bonneville off-road wants to make it a permanent part of it series I would be happy to talk with the owner to see if we could work something like this out.

1st place $500
2nd place $250
3rd place $125
Around $100 entry fee?

I think to get something like this to work it would have to be contingent on a set # of  UTV's that enter in each class.
Something like 15 UTV's per class minimum for full payout?

So here is the big question for every one.......... IF I could talk Bonneville off-road into something like this is their anyone who is not racing now that would race with a payout program like this?

I'm not talking about I might or I would if I was going to race but I don't want to race. I'm talking about who is not going to race September 19th only because their is no payout but would be their 100% if their was a payout similar to the one listed above?

Also if its not the lack of payout keeping you (you is who ever is reading this) from racing what is it? And not to be rude but I'm not looking for answers from people who will not race because of reasons like..

I live on the other side of the country
I don't think racing is fun.
I don't want to beat up my machine in the desert.
I'm to old

I'm talking to the people that are reading this and thinking man I really want race my UTV with Bonneville off-road racing ....... but i cant or will not because?

I agree on the 4 or 5 point harness.  Beyond that, maybe a helmet, eye protection, long sleeves and long pants...?  Those are the basic requirements when running practice days at Miller Motorsports Track in their sports car series - and we were hitting speeds of 120+ mph.

Any progress in this?  I'm totally interested.  Here's the deal though - I don't have a UTV - I have what some call a China Lite.  Basically a Chinese built mini sand rail similar to the Joyner Viper 1100.  I run nobbies on it, it's similar in wheel base and weight to most UTVs.

So could I come race?

If anyone is concerned about the 1100 cc motor - keep in mind that it's Chinese built (not too much power) and there's a very good chance that I'll break down long before the end of the race...

But it's all worth it to me.  I'd even love to just pre-run the course, especially if it's not too far from SLC.
