I had a very similiar problem with my 500 .
I never did find a helpful wiring diagram .
There's a bunch of connector's under the hood against the dash . I cleaned all of them even though they looked ok and that cured my problem .
It wasn't getting enough power to run .
Hope this help's .
A buddy of mine went with me to a polaris dealer to buy part's and fell in love with the 2010 Ranger 800.
He bought one and I have drove it eight hour's or more and there are no heat issue's with this model . Look's like Polaris fixed the problem .
Talk about a nice machine , that thing rock's .
I have a 2003 ranger 500 .
Yesterday out of the blue it went to back firing then quit .
I thought at first it had picked up some water so I pulled the carb. but it was clean .
Got to checking the firing and the sparkplug would fire sometimes and sometimes not .
I don't have a repair manual but I'm looking for one . Does anyone have any sugestion's on checking the electronic's that might help me along untill I get a manual ?
Uh ! The silencer maybe .
On the foot feed issue .......... after an hour or so of riding the odd angle was really bothering me .
Yesterday I cut a piece of 3/4 in pylwood about 8x8 inches and screwed it down in front of the accelarator to bring my heel up .
It made all the difference in the world on the confort .
I have a 2003 Ranger 500 and I do a lot of night riding .
I have a habit of stoping and killing the engine and leaving the key on so the light's will stay on .
Question is : Does the fuel pump shut off when it build's to a certain preasure or does it continue to pump ? I have not had any problem so I am assuming it cut's off but it bother's me not knowing .
I could rewire the light's but don't want to unless it is necessary.
First time I drove one that was the first thing I noticed . That and the engine brake .
After a while you don't notice it anymore . On the plus side the ride is better than other's I've been on .
It takes some getting used to .
Been reading here a while and really enjoy this place .
Lot's of good info to be found here .
I got my hand's on an 03 Ranger that was flipped off a trailer and need a few part's to get it going . Main thing I need is a rear differential . I find ton's of differentials on ebay at a good price but nothing for a ranger .
My question is ......... are any of the four wheeler's running a compatable gearbox ?
If not is there a source for reasonable after market part's ?
