Hello all,
This year me and my good buddy that I go riding with are looking to get a Sport side by side. Right now, we both drive 2wd sport quads, and have a Kubota RTV500 UTV that we drive through the trails one we are too tired to ride the quads anymore. If any of you have driven/ridden in a Kubota RTV 400/500, You'd know it's probably the slowest, least exhilarating ride on the planet. It is simply a work horse, and it does it's job very well, but it is just slow, and uncomfortable and pretty sure the back doesnt' even have suspension.
So, that is my only SxS experience, a 18 hp 1500 lb utility rig.
I'm 6'4" and 300 lbs, and my buddy is 6'0" and 200 lbs. So finding something that we will be comfortable in will likely be one of the determining factors.
In a nut shell, here is what I'm looking for and my thought process.
I want something that in stock form is reliable. I'm not looking for the biggest, fastest, top of the line, exotic shocked Side by side. I want something that is simple, easy to work on, and is reliable.
As far as performance, Any of the SxS's are going to feel insanely fast to us, as our only frame of reference is the above mentioned Kubota.
So far we have sat in a Rzr 800, rzr 900, rzr 1000, and 2012 wildcat.
The wildcat was the most comfortable driving position for both of us, the seats felt good, and the leg room was acceptable.
We have not had a chance to sit yet in the CanAm Maverick, but basically, those are the best 3 options. The RZR, the Wildcat, or the Maverick.
One thing I have noticed, basically every single machine has some kind of frequently occurring issue. The RZR likes to eat CV shafts, the Wildcat likes to eat differentials, and the Maverick likes to eat belts and leak oil from the diff seals.
(These are all observations I've made looking at the forums, all of the above issues had several reports of the same issue in basically every forum I looked at)
I will be buying used, only because I can't bring myself to drop 20k on a toy. Right now, the 2012 and 2013 wildcats can be had for 12k or less used, between that fact, and them being the most comfortable they are the front runner for us right now.
So what are everyones thoughts? Again, anyone that wants to post things like "I have a turbo charged RZR 1000 and it smokes everyone, get the RZR" is useless information to me. I'm looking for a sport side by side that is adequate in stock form, The most modification I'll likely do is a slip-on and maybe some kind of intake/filter upgrade.
Thanks for any and all relevant advice.
This is also a concern of mine, I'm in the market for my first SxS, I'm 6'4" and 310 lbs. I played football in college, I'm wide, and I'm tall.
I've sat in all the RZR's, and the Wildcat. I did have more leg room in the wildcat. It was still not "comfortable" by any means, but I'm old enough to accept the fact that 90% of the world is of Average height/weight, which means basic marketing would show 90% of the customer base for any product will be in at the top of that bell curve.
The industry will likely never re-engineer their products for the 3% of us that are tall.
Hello all, New guy here from Central ohio.
In the process of researching SxS, will be purchasing my first one this spring. Hoping to get some good information.
I currently ride a heavily modded 2001 Yamaha Raptor 660.
