Welcome! A guy you might get along well with is "Dieselpowered". He has another forum TeryxHQ.com that is another good place for Teryx build up information!
Get some mud on that thing and get some pictures up here for us to see!
btw, what kinda diesel are you running?
RedMan, I did not realize that you were one of the XXX motorsports guys until just now!
I guess I missed all of the clues in other posts. Just wanted to say that "the bus" is happy to have the fuel can installed and that I am very happy with the ramps that I bought from you guys. I haven't had a chance to use the nice low-pressure gauge much yet, but I expect to once I get some more mods finished on my machine.
I still love the little digital camera system, too. Thanks for being cool at the UTV Rally and helping me out with quality products!
Kyle
Is this the one that Larry Roesseler will be driving?
Damn, you boys are making me jealous! Wish I could go, but I've got too much work to do.
The BUS has been getting some love though, I got a roof basket and I'm installing some EDGE LED light bars this weekend. It gets dark up in the Julian holler ya know!
Have fun boys!!!
Lugnutz, here is another forum that is MULE only tech discussions. Lots of folks from Texas, but some from Cali and they have MULEs for sale there occasionally.
Good Luck!
Hey guys, sorry for the delay in checking in here. If you haven't gotten that 610 yet, you probably should. It's just a smaller version of the tank that I have. 25,000hrs on those units from DFW doesn't surprise me at all. Kawasaki overbuilds all of their MULEs for long-term reliability and dependability. You hardly see one for sale unless the need is gone or they are moving up to a larger/newer model. Most folks keep 'em forever. As long as being in a hurry is not in your job description for the unit, I'm sure you'll get $2800 worth of use out of it if you hardly try at all. One of my friends sells 'em in Texas, their company motto is "Save a truck, drive a MULE!"
I'll get you a link for another MULE friendly board as soon as I get to another computer...
I thought I'd put up a picture thread to show what I did on my 3010 Trans lift kit, since I hadn't seen one before:
I started by taking the storage basket out of the MULE for better access, based on MuleMan's recommendation from the UtilityOffroad.com message board.
One of the screws was seriously stuck so I had to use my impact driver to get it out
Ready to get started
All of the pieces in the kit
Got it apart... getting the stock spring off was alot easier than putting the 90% stronger cab spring back on. I bought this used, notice the mud caked inside the spring cup. A sign of things to come from the previous owner.
Finally ready to bolt it in...
The lift worked so well that I had to jack the MULE up higher to get the wheels back on it!
Big ride height difference before the springs settled.
Even after settling the suspension by driving it, there is a nice lift increase noticeable by the angle of the a-arms.
Time to try the new shoes!
By george I think I'm gonna like this...
She's a LOT taller now...
4" difference in tire size with the 27" Essex tires.
I also installed the CV boot guards.
Overall I'm thrilled with the new system. As some of you know, I took my MULE to the UTV rally in Moab in May and went on a Medium/Hard trail with the MULE and it performed pretty well considering. I had to winch it twice when it was high-centered, but most of the time it really went well. If the front end had a locker I think I coulda made it out both of those times.
That's a great picture right there!
Diesel I had a blast! I haven't had that much fun 4-wheeling in ages (I guess I should say 3 wheeling some of the time)!
Fasttrax, Thanks! Yep, the clutch issue was really just a warm-up issue. The BUS' guts are fairly overbuilt as you would expect and with the bigger parts it just took a little longer to get them to engage and warm-up that morning, it's designed to pull a plow, but normally you don't have someone else pulling on the other side of the plow Once she was warm she was fine.
Krypto - I didn't bring that thing all of the way from SoCal to enter the damn rodeo 8) I didn't even know about the rodeo until I got there. I only have money for my one SxS, so I that's what I brought! It was a good enough excuse to come to the event. I did have plenty of power on the trails, which I knew I would. The damn thing will only go 24mph, but it never lacks torque. The open front-diff combined with the long wheelbase was the real limiter when I couldn't keep both rear tires on the ground. When I could attack a ledge or face directly, even with steps, it would usually just crawl right up it. The alternating obstacles where I needed the front-end to drag me across some stuff were the two places I got stuck and needed to be winched. Without the lift and tires I would not have been able to do what I did at all. Makes me wonder what the shorter wheelbase version with the same lift and tires would do. Thanks for the congrats, I was pleasantly surprised.
Here's a prime example Troy sent me of how she likes to throw one wheel up in the air!
Mouser... we'll see if I get a bug up my butt between now and then 8) I've got lockers in the front of both of my trucks, so it wouldn't be the first time I upgraded a front-end... but I think I would have to get a rear case and modify it for the front and then modify an extra locker cable to get it to work. Don't know if I have that much free time coming this year... but if I could get a Teryx variable locker setup to work I would be into that. I just don't know if any of the parts are even remotely close to being swappable right now. I guess I should do some homework!
I think I am gonna do the power steering thing for sure though. The new systems are supposed to be able to bolt directly onto my older machine... that would be worth doing!
Chris,
Thanks for posting this. It only takes a few yahoos to ruin everyone elses time and in an area that is sensitive to insensitive behavior it can escalate quickly. Let's all take the advice of the gentlemen that was run off of the road and try to police our own kind.
After I came home from the rally I was asked how it was and what my strongest impressions of the rally were. As I recounted to others, my single biggest impression was just how darn nice everyone involved with the rally was. It might sound strange, but in any large gathering there is usually a fairly large percentage of people that are just not nice people. I didn't find that in Moab. I've attended truck events, hot rod events, motorcycle rallies, etc. This was by far the nicest collective group of people I've seen at an event. Let's do our best to keep this impression going so that this sport/recreation can be seen in a positive light and let's let those that we find sullying the name of UTV riders know our displeasure with their behavior on the spot.
Just my .02
Well, for better or worse I decided to take my Trans4x4 to the Moab to see how it would perform. Since rock crawling is not a speed sport I figured it would do better than many expected. It did fairly well considering it was dubbed "The Bus" before the event was over. I got to the event right after the groups left on Thursday morning after driving all night to get there... that was a bummer. I got some work done and went down to the arena to figure out what was going on and to register. I got signed up for the raffles and the "tug-o-war" on Friday. I almost slept too late and got to the arena right at 10am on Friday to enter the event and after starting the mule and driving over to the rodeo ring I was called right away and immediately lost... the motor bogged and the belt slipped like crazy. Bummer... but it was a double-elimination event.
I decided to warm the motor and belt up by driving it around the lot for a few minutes to see if I could get a different result. Well, that was it, she was just cold when I tried the first time. Here are the pics that a friend gave me from the event.
Beat my second Rhino
Pulling around after winning in the losers bracket
Waiting between rounds
Kyle hooking me up again!
About this time they are making fun of the MULE calling it the Shiny Red Tractor!
Diggin' in again.
I eventually won because unfortunately RMD broke his axle in our final pull while he and Gilbert (I believe) were jumping up and down trying to get him some better traction.
The next day I decided to take the "The Bus" as it was dubbed on the Cliffhanger trail to check and see what it would do. There were two spots where the open front diff was a problem. I honestly forgot that the front diff was open and didn't lock when I engaged my rear locker until I got on the trail. I always goes like a billygoat in the mountains where I use it, so I guess I was just having an early senior moment :x My winch broke on its maiden voyage, but Warn warrantied it and I've got the new one in it already. So the Rhino with the BFG A/T tires winched my over the first obstacle I was stuck on and then I made it the rest of the way in and then I got stuck one time on the way back and Gilbert winched me out. Both time I got high-centered due to double obstacles and the lack of my front-end being able to pull me up. As long as my rear tires had grip it went every where. Here are some pics that Brownrhino was kind enough to give to me! Thanks Oscar, I'll keep that IOU for a Julian pie for sure!
Much thanks to Andre from Trail Armor, and Gilbert for being patient with the "bus", and Chris and Kyle for making the odd duck at the event feel welcome! I had a great time. I don't think I'll put my MULE through Cliffhanger again, but it was cool to see what the limits for the machine are. A 2" lift and bigger tires were the only performance mods to the machine and I needed those for my own property to be able to straddle rocks and tree stumps.
Iceman, nice to see another Mule in here... and I must say that I like your color choice
I'm surprised you don't have doors on that thing!!! I know you guys are tough and all, but I think I'd get me some of those up there... Is that a diesel or gas rig?
Martin, nice looking work. From what I can see in these pics and the way the cage held up in Moab, I would have to say that you did a nice job welding that cage. Love the sticker, I need one of those for my pickup!
Martin, that thing looked even better in person in Moab. You have a great concept and approach for making that thing perform and it obviously does so very well. I can't wait until you complete the rest of the mods! Keep us informed with pictures man!
THANKS CHRIS and KYLE!!!! and all your support crew!!!
that trip was awesome! i think we need to fire our guides though, rolled three machine and broke three axles
and the carnage on hells revenge was even worse!!!
just glad my machine isnt in the carnage video
however i am still broken and cant get parts for this weekend  ever done a tug of war with a tractor and a ferrari  the ferrari will put on a good show but its not built for that.
thanks to everybody in our group for a killer weekend!!!
I think if we ever guide a trail again we need a additional waiver signed. there is a 50% chance of either body damage or parts breaking
but seriously we should add some TRAILERED rides for next year and keep the groups small.
and UTVdealer I so want to ride in one of thoose x-18s in the dunes
and jared good job on the videos!
Hey man, I'm sorry about that axle. That was probably the one thing at the event that the bus was built for... I'm sure you woulda put on a good show during the polebender competition. I had a great time meeting you and the other folks there.
Take Care!
Great videos and great efforts with those machines... I love it when the pigtails get in the water... yuck! And nice backflip Kryptonite! Great way to end the video.
