Re: New Toy Project

Pics of XTZ in progress... should be done in another week. It'll have King Racing Shocks, Beard Super TZ full containment seats, ITP Beadlock wheels with ITP BajaCross 8 ply tires, Fabworx racing cage minus the door bar, 1/4 doors by Fabworx, redesigned spare tire carrier, oh and the seats are lowered 4 inches. And lots of frame bracing too. 13 inches ground clearance with 13 inches wheel travel.
More pics tomorrow..

Re: New Toy Project

Very nice Darryl! Do the new seats ride higher? Is the cage tied into the frame on the rear? What is the stock travel on the XTZ? Thanks.

Yes, the cage bolts directly to the frame in the back and the cage frame mounts elsewhere.
Stock travel is 10 inches, but the King Shocks are a bit longer with more travel, giving the XTZ a couple more inches height and 3 inches more travel.
The seats were lowered, but the Beard Super TZ seats sit a touch taller than we wanted. So we are going to rebuild the bases, but that won't be until after the W.E.ROCK Grand National Rock Championships next week. This machine will be on display along with the Baja winning Arctic Cat ThunderCat of Fines Double Racing.

Re: New Toy Project

I really like the angles on that cage. Makes the Prowler look much more sporty. Nice work. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Re: New Toy Project

This is a good example of a well built bolt in roll cage for a UTV. Good work big_smile . The only thing i notice and it may be the picture shot is the weld on the botom of the tube on the drivers side center support tube  .

Re: New Toy Project

Yeah, I think the welder may have burned it too deep right there, probably have him run a second bead over it to build it up. Strength-wise, it's 1.75 OD DOM, .120 wall Tubing. More than SCORE, BITD or any other's require for this size and weight of machine. The main fab guy builds rock crawlers and desert trucks (ie: King of the Hammers, SCORE Trucks) for a living, but the guy that did some of the welds on this isn't quite as good.
But with a top speed upwards of 75mph, I wanted it strong. We installed UTVCrap frame braces into the upper round frame tubes on all four corners, are installing UTVCrap's A-Arm reinforcement kit and putting in some gusseting on the frame itself. The lower A-Arms will eventually get plate gusseting too.

Re: New Toy Project

Some years back i did allot of race car fab work as a crew chief and car builder for SCCA and NHRA class cars and I did like what i seen with yours . It is way to common for people to over-think what a cage should be built like and especially when you build a cage for a UTV that only has 50 to 75 hp and a certain size wheel base, you do not need a real heavy and top heavy cage to do the same purpose. A real heavy cage on a UTV that already has a poor power to weight ratio and that is the same with all UTVs is counter productive. Yours is still light and strong and not over thought   big_smile . Oh and also you need to check your photo bucket because your photos are coming in and out .

Keep up the good work and the pictures....

Re: New Toy Project

Thanks for the comments on the cage and the heads up on the photobucket... I've been having problems with them for awhile.. I was downloading some pics today and maybe that interfered with the pics showing...but I'm about ready to find another photo hosting site.

Re: New Toy Project

You can post them directly on this site. If you look at the tool bar where you post a reply you will see a icon with a mountain and a sun. that will do the same thing without the problems at least on this site  .

Re: New Toy Project

Dose the prowler have a steel bed or plastic bed :?: . And did you use a spray in bed liner :?: . The reason I am asking is I would like to do the same to mine but i have had conflicting information that the spray in bed liner will not bond well to plastic :?: .
