Re: Sprague Carrier Failure

We have all heared about the sprague carrier failing and it happened to my personal RZR so I thought I would show you how mine looks and what can be done to fix it. It is crazy to think that Polaris would use plastic in their 4WD systems to save a few cents.  roll

For those of you that dont know what I am talking about this plastic carrier is in the front diff.

When mine failed I was out to the sand dunes doing about 20mph. Maybe it had weekend, was cracked, etc before this dune trip but who knows.

Some misc pics of what mine looked like when I tore into it.

Re: Sprague Carrier Failure

So all the pieces laying on the work bench should look like this----->

1275853287410179.jpg

Now there is a solution for your front differential roller cage always breaking. You wont have to replace it ever again with those cheap plastic parts from the factory. You can now replace it with a Heavy Duty 6061 Hardened Aluminum piece that will stand up to any torture you can throw at it.

This part was made for those who would rather be riding than working on their machines! Whether you are replacing this from experience or preventing future break downs, this is one modification that will be well worth the time and effort. This part is the first part that breaks in a front differential when using a stock plastic part.

We offer a LIFETIME WARRANTY on this product.

Will Fit:
Polaris RZR 4
Polaris RZR S : 2009+
Polaris RZR : 2008+

Re: Sprague Carrier Failure

Good post Jared, I never could understand why it was plastic as well. I will contact you when I start having issues with mine but I do not anticipate any issues I hope for a while with mine. I also do not do anywhere near as much rock crawling as you do....

Let me just note this: It is a lot less time consuming to do it before it comes apart. A lot less messy of a job as well.

Re: Sprague Carrier Failure

I just wanted to say thanks to Ruthless motorsports for having one of these in stock and having one to me the next day, FAST SHIPPING. I took mine to the dealer and they would have had to order one and it would have been a stock plastic replacement, after they approved having it replaced to begin with.

It was the first thing that failed on my 350 mile RZR4, The dealer was very impressed with the quality of the new one and said he had seen quite a few failures of the stock one now. It would have REALLY sucked if I would have been in Moab or in the mud when it went into a million bits, almost like oreo's in a milkshake.

THANKS AGAIN JARED! big_smile

Re: Sprague Carrier Failure

Got my rzr4 back today after the spraque carrier distruction and then changing to the higher altitude clutching.

Here is the old Polaris spraque carrier after only 352 miles. Not as bad as Jareds but for being plastic and holding the torque of the front end it should be an embarrassment to Polaris. I would have been more upset if it would have failed when I needed 4x4 most. Dealers are seeing more of this now. The dealer hadn't seen the stock part yet from Polaris so I am now very glad Ruthless had the LIFETIME WARRANTY replacement one in stock.

Re: Sprague Carrier Failure

You guys are very welcome. We are always happy to help!

Fasttrax, 350 miles is a record for one of these coming apart, atleast at my shop. It goes to show us that it can happen to anyone at any time.   Still makes me wonder why they keep making them out of plastic....

RPeverley, your an animal! You had that installed in record time.  wink  Thanks for stoping by the shop, it was great to see you again.

Badley, we will have your sprague carrier in this week. I have your name on one already.

We are sold out at the moment but will have a new batch in this week if any of you are interested. I will post up when they arrive.

You are correct, yours was not as bad as mine. However, it doesnt matter if they are in a million pieces or 2. They still will not work.
