Re: American Fork Canyon

Does anyone have any experience with the American Fork Canyon "jeep trail" in Utah?  I found a cool article about it, and it looks like a place to get a rock fix without going to Moab.

http://www.4x4now.com/trutaf2.htm

I would like to do a day ride this summer/fall there.

Any info is appreciated, Thanks.

I can go this friday.  If that doesn't work, how about Aug. 18,20,25 or 27.

I know AF Canyon fairly well. I have never been to Pittsburgh Lake but I am definately game. I would be good for Aug 20-21st - lets do it!

I didn't read the article, but if it's talking about driving to Pittsburg Lake it must be an old article- that trail has been closed for several years. I was fortunate enough to drive it a couple of times before it was closed. In fact, Gabe rolled his Jeep on the wall obstacle that was the make or break spot on the trail. Totalled his Jeep, but got him into rock crawling and his first trip to Moab was soon after.

There are several cool trails up the canyon though, Mineral Basin, Forest Lake, Mary Ellen Gulch and Major Evans Gulch to name a few.

Re: American Fork Canyon

If Pittsburgh is the trail that takes off to the right in Mineral Basin - it is closed. But the rest Coreshot mentions are fun.

Re: American Fork Canyon

From the trail description it sounds like it a fun trail to run.  With the Pittsburgh trail being closed is there still an "rockin" to do?

yup, that's the one, right at the start of Mineral Basin crossing through the creek to the right and up the hill.

Re: American Fork Canyon

Im in. Forest lake cost me my engine and a mud hole took a yank from a jeep cherokee to get my rhino out. There is a good rock trail to the backside of snowbird still.

Are we camping yet?

Jared, 5 Mile Pass is home to Rattlesnake and Constrictor, the trails I told about when I was at your shop. They're cool.

Re: American Fork Canyon

Here are the coords, lets do this.  When is a good for everyone?  I'll be at the UTV rally in marysvale the 12-14 of aug, and my son has football games every saturday starting the  21st, other than that I am open.  Fridays are good if y'all can get off work.

Lanse, the coords for Rattlesnake TH are N40'15.663 W112'12.534 and the Constrictor TH is N40'16.790 W112'11.590. These coords are just appox.; as I just took them off of Google Earth. There is parking @ N40'14.878 W112'12.803. To get to 5MP, from Tooele head south and turn left on SR73 for about 20 or so miles. From Lehi, head W for 25 miles or so on SR73
