Polaris RZR XP 900

To each their own, but what I've heard so far doesn't classify as a new class of sxs in my book.  Regardless, I doubt there are many that will be disappointed by more power, ground clearance and suspension changes.  It still makes for a really nice improvement.  I think Polaris is building what many of us want.  However, I'm interested in learning more about all the specs...weight, tire size, etc.  Price?

Re: IS IT A NEW CLASS OF SIDE X SIDE?

I hate to say it but I had my hopes up for something more. The new engine is awesome but the rest of it is just like every other long travel RZR out there. I know the trailing arm with probably handle way different but all in all it's just a long travel RZR with more power. There's a million of them out there. I guess it is cheaper than buying a stock one and building it yourself, and it comes with a warranty, and you can build from here and you'd already be starting ahead of everyone else..... OK nevermind I like it. I still don't think it's a whole new class unless a trailing arm will do that, but the Joyner Trooper and the Tomcar already have trailing arms. Oh well, will that engine make a clean swap into my Crew. lol

Re: IS IT A NEW CLASS OF SIDE X SIDE?

Not sure it's a "whole new class of SXS".  But it certainly raises the bar.  For my type of riding, not sure how the trailing arms will work.  It looks as if I'd "bump" them on the rocks.
The rear arms dont look very heavy duty.  I dont get my machine over 50 mph very often, and always felt I've had plenty of power.  My RZR with long travel is just as wide and only 2" less on wheelbase.  Not sure why I'd need one.

I would however like that motor in my RZR 4!

These are my initial thoughts.

Re: IS IT A NEW CLASS OF SIDE X SIDE?

I am very impressed!
Not only a significantly more powerful motor, but reengineering the drive train to minimize horsepower losses is a very good move.
I suspect that all things being equal, you would have to make a little over 100 horsepower with a RZR S to have the same power to the wheels as this new machine at 88 horsepower. It's all about efficiency, and getting the power to the wheels.

On the one hand, I can see the extra 4.5 inches of wheelbase being a big improvement to the stability when rock crawling. (Similar to a RZR 4, but without the turning radius drawbacks of the RZR 4 in the tight spots)
On the other, I can see the trailing arms dragging over some of the more extreme obstacles.
I'm sure someone is going to make some UHMW protectors for those arms, and It shouldn't be an issue.

I am excited to see these things in action, I'm sure they are going to be very impressive.

My current needs more lean toward a RZR-4, and I am disappointed that they didn't make a RZR 4 XP.  sad
I also don't foresee them doing that very soon (If ever)
Looks like I am going to be in the market for a RZR 4, and will be talking to Aerocharger to give it the power I will need it to have.

Props to Polaris! They own the sport SXS market!  big_smile

They certainly own the sport SxS market.  After seeing more of the details...I also like it a lot.  I can see one of these in my garage down the road sometime.  I personally like the white one.

Polaris took 5 XPs to Glamis yesterday.  Sounds like the opinions of it were very positive...even from those with turbo S models.

Re: IS IT A NEW CLASS OF SIDE X SIDE?

Yeah, I have been reading the accounts from people that were there at Glamis.
One guy said that while talking with one the Polaris factory guys he was told that they left allot of HP on the table to get it so quiet.
Sounds like this engine is just beggin' for a couple of easy mods to free up the power for those who need even more than comes stock.
They also said that the new 900 is quieter than the rzr 800 by quite a bit!
I like quiet! lol

Sounds like these things can outrun the turbo RZR S machines, especially where you get into the whoops!

The air intake is a completely new design, and sounds like it has been significantly improved.
