Hi, I'm looking for a utility type UTV, preferably a MULE, and have been cruising craigslist and other sites looking for a good deal on a used machine. The problem that I'm having is nailing down what's a fair price. When I look on NADA, the value of the machines are almost always half of what I find that people are asking. I don't want to be that guy that calls someone and offers half of what they're asking, but I also don't to pay twice what something is worth. Is NADA correct or is there a better resource for UTV values?
Thank You for any help,
Matt

The biggest problem there is today is most people are upside down on them. I paid more for both the Rhino and RZR4 (asking price) then high book due to demand. Most people won't dump them for less than others on the market unless they need to sell quick or have clear title and just want out.
I was glad to get out of my rhino last spring before the 660 value tanked but I still took a good hit on it as well for the money invested. If you have cash in hand and they have a title they will be hungry to sell too.

Thank You for your response. Any ideas on a better resource for UTV values? The last guy I pissed off had a 1995 Mule 2510 and he was asking $2800. KBB value on it was about $2400, but that was if it had been refurbished by a dealer, and NADA was $1900. I really didn't want something that old but it was in good shape and I thought I might be able to get a deal. He wouldn't budge. So was a $1900 offer reasonable or was I way off the mark?
Thanks Again

Depends on what the majority sell for. Here in Utah most rhino 660s are going for 7500 or less. I personally would look at miles, mantainance and accessories. If it is going to cost replacement of fenders or tires to get it in shape I would would use that as a dealing tool. Low mileage would be the key for me. How bad do you want it?

Take 24 or less 100 bills and he will jump on it when he sees the greenbacks too.

I think I'm going to leave that one alone. I'm pretty sure he was insulted, but I offered him what I thought it was worth...oh well. I'll find something.
Thanks Again.

Why are you sold on a mule? Have you looked at a rhino 450 or 660?

I chose the Mule because it's the only UTV that I've driven that I can afford. My significant other is an unemployed architect and we just had a baby, enough said. I'm trying to pick up an older 2510 for as little as possible. We have 2 Mules, an Arctic Cat and a Bad Boy Buggy at work, and I really like the Bad Boy Buggy but I can't afford it. My friend has a Ranger Crew 700, which is sweet, but I can't drop $15k right now. Gators, Arctic Cats and Rhinos are out because I want a bench seat so I can at least get 3 people in it.
So basically, I want a bench seat, 4x4, and cheap. Which narrowed the field pretty well. Then Mule parts seem to be really easy to research and get, even on ebay . I'm open to suggestions, but these are my requirements, and my thought processes.

I find most used prices are based on reasonable NADA value, but the problem is they add a lot of the aftermarket parts value to the price. If he was insulted by your offer - too bad! I think it was reasonable, not insulting. Most people would at least give you a counteroffer. Keep looking - good luck.
