Re: Snowmobile Clutch??? anyone

Just curious if anyone has swapped their clutch to one off of a snowmobile?  I see that one is available from DRAGONFIRE but I don't know that much about this type of setup.  Is there a cvt from a snowmobile that may work fairly easily or am I better off with say a KMS sheave?

I'm just looking to get more top end MPH (possibly keep up with RZR) without sacrificing low or mid range power.  I'm not interested in turbo, supercharger, NOS.... ETC....

Thanks

Dusty

Re: Snowmobile Clutch??? anyone

stick with a sheave unless you can afford new belts every 2-3 rides
Unless your racing and have a built motor, which it would take a built motor to hang with a rzr, there is no need for the troubles and added exspenses. wanna kill a rzr, get a rotax

Do you just use the sheave by its self??? or should you replace the rollers, shims, seals  and regrease?? I dont want to do it wrong.  it only has 145miles on it now.

Re: Snowmobile Clutch??? anyone

You can get the sheave as a kit with rollers. I did and mine works great. Yes the snowmobile clutch is good in theory. It gets a lot more hp to the ground but so far no one has been able to make the thing last with out eating belts when you trail run it. Hec PDM has been trying to make a cover for theirs for over a year and they cant get it done with out overheating. As for the rotax ideal. It is a ton of money but man will it fly! If all out speed and power is what you want make the rotax swap now before you put a ton of money into your rhino motor you can never get back. FYI: The rotax motor runs a snowmobile style clutch as well but made for ATV use.

Re: Snowmobile Clutch??? anyone

I have had the DFR Snow Mobile Clutch on my rhino and wow it is way faster.  It starts out faster and it accelerates faster and it has a higher top speed.  Can it hang with the RZR?  Barely and you will be long in there dust before you get to your top speed. They are just a lot lighter and quicker.

Mine is not installed at the moment.  It sucks for crawling at Moab.  So yes it is faster but if you do slow low speed crawling you will not be happy with it.
