Re: Joyner Troopers?

Hey, I'm just curious if there are any Trooper owners on this board.  The only site I've found with a large following of Trooper owners is "riding arizona" but I'd really like to talk to people that are more local to CA than that.

Any chance of a Joyner section popping up in the future?  I know there is a strong bias against them in some circles but my 1100cc fuel injected 4wd WITH lockers has been a great buggy for me with no problems to speak of. Then again, it's maintained properly and then some and has been upgraded a bit to prevent breakdown.

What do you say???

Re: Joyner Troopers?

I'll have to dig up some pics on my other computer but if you don't know much about them, they're a little longer and wider than a rhino.  They're also a LOT heavier....but they've got an 1100 cc engine that makes 86hp.   The engine is manufactured by CHERY, which is actually I believe the second largest engine manufacturer in the world.  Parts are readily available due to this...you just have to know where to look.  The Joyners are commonly referred to as "china buggies", which sounds derogatory but my experience has been actually the opposite and here's why:  the chinese rip off EVERYTHING in designing parts.  What this means is that every part on the buggy has a japanese part that it's identical to.  If you need a part you just go to your local autoparts store and they can measure it and figure out what japanese car it is equivalent to and find you a replacement from their stock.  The buggy differs from a rhino or RZR in that it has a true 5 speed manual trans.   Personally I prefer to shift.  I like manipulating the clutch.  1st gear is VERY low and tops out around 4mph.  It's excellent for climbing up or over anything.   It will spin all four wheels when locked up (front and rear lockers and 4wd) before it stalls.   Since they were just released last year, they have some bugs to work out, but so far Joyner has been great about listening to trooper owners and issuing replacement parts.   You aren't going to get the top workmanship that you'd expect from yamaha or polaris or the like so you need to be handy with a wrench, just like a hard core jeep guy would.  You're going to push the thing hard and you're going to break it...but that's part of the fun.   If you look however, you can find one brand new OUT THE DOOR for 12k.    Considering that's less than a lesser equipped polaris or yamaha with a bigger engine and more features and capabilities...in my opinion it's worth it.  They do suck in the sand though...they're too heavy!  They sure turn heads though.

Re: Joyner Troopers?

From what I've seen on the Joyner's, they are top notched. They have fixed the axle problems from the first run of vehicles. We use and abuse them every weekend. They have held up better than the 2006 Special Edition 660 Rhino that we had. We had to replace brakes on the Rhino, and have yet to do anything to the Trooper, (except upgrades) no breakages. The Chery engine is the 2nd largest engine builder. Parts are easy to get. If anyone wants to know about the Joyners, feel free to message me. Thanks

Re: Joyner Troopers?

Been great so far. A couple little problems with the gauges, but ...but it HAS gauges. Full instrumentation. I have a 2009. I race Best in the Desert Races and this machine is burly. Trailing arms, a-arms, tie rods...are heavy duty and professionally welded and powder coated. The drive train is strong and well mounted. The rev limiter needs to go, but probably saves a lot of engines for rookie drivers. Comes standard with a winch, 5pt harnesses and race seats that are comfortable. The shocks are good for stock, but dial them in. They come with far too much pre-load from the factory. They worked well after dialing them in. The mounts are standard and you can probably use a number of shocks depending on preference. All 4 seats are adjustable and there is storage below 3/4 seats. The roll cage is well built and the light bar is awesome. I don't think another UTV comes stock with 6 - 6" lights. Street legal in Utah.  The weakness is that it's a bit heavy - 1700 lbs, and its long, 160". Doesn't fit in my 28 ft. hauler. It comes with a mud light type tire and the bolt pattern is Polaris. Access to the air filter and oil check/filter are good. Has grab bars for the back and front passenger. It climbs like a billy goat. You can lock the hubs from the inside and lock front, back or both. The brakes and clutch are hydraulic. The clutch is sweeeet. Its fast even with the rev limiter. Did 63 mph on the highway. A turbo charger can be added to bring it up to 150 hp. You would probably need to install wheel spacers and offset wheels to widen it up with the extra power. I'll let you know if I break it.

Re: Joyner Troopers?

We are a Joyner dealer and currently ride a Trooper. We've done the King Shocks, power steering kit, adjustable computer, and 30" tires on Douglas 14" wheels. We have rode this Trooper for about a year now without any problems what so ever. You can check out pictures of it on www.tobefast.com. We offer the full line and have rode several of the machines, like the 800 Renegade, 1100 Trooper, 250 Sand Viper, 650 Sand Spider, 800 Sand Viper, 1100 Sand Viper, and the 2.0 Sand Runner. These are great machines.

If you have any questions about Joyner in general, just email me at art@tobefast.com

Re: Joyner Troopers?

I took my joyner T4 to dumont a couple weeks ago for the sand drags. It did better than expected. Need to air the tires down to around 5. I got stuck a couple times - mostly driver error, not staying on the gas - but was able to get out using reverse or first gear. didn't have paddles...just the stock tires. I've ridden it pretty hard in the desert and have approx 500 miles on it with no problems yet. If you are looking to carve it up on big dunes, this is not the buggy, get a RZR. But if you are looking for a more "family" fun ride that is truly built for 4 passengers, the trooper could work well for you. It's all about what you expect and how you plan to use it. We recently took it from Duck Creek Utah to Bryce Canyon only using dirt roads and it was awesome. Lots of room to bring stuff and it was very comfortable.

Re: Joyner Troopers?

If you're looking to pick up alot of power check this out. We offer a turbo system for the Joyner Troopers. Here's the link to the turbo kit. The only problem you may have on your Trooper is the 2wd/4wd locker, but Team Joyner USA is fixing the problem with a manual locker.

Re: Joyner Troopers?

Hey everyone, I have read most of your posts but I still have some questions about the Trooper T2. I know that I will have to do some work eventually to any toy that I buy and I don't have any problem with that. My main concern is how well it will do for a beginner driver. I want to buy a T2 for my Wife. I need something reliable and safe for her and my 2yr old Daughter to follow me around the desert on my quad. I was looking at the Rhino, but she wants something more like a buggy. My Uncle bought a Joyner Sand Viper 650cc and she likes it, but it doesn't have enough power.

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated!

BTW I am a San Diego Native. I was planning on going to Buggy-World in Santee in the next couple of weeks to test one out. They have a $750 off coupon for any new buggy.

Also, Does anyone know if they can be street legal in San Diego, CA?

It works well and my other half drives it and she loves it and has no problems

Re: Joyner Troopers?

Like all machines they all have the positives and negatives, The trooper has had some issues that the manufacturer has seemed to eliminate some of from what i have seen and maybe if there is a strong enough showing on sideXside forum regarding Joyner it may earn a thread here at some point like Polaris and Yamaha has.  .
