Re: Ocean Rescue UTV

I am new to the board and was hoping I could get some help.

I work for Ocean Rescue and we have 3 Kawasaki 610 4X4s.  The beds, floorboards, and some of the under side are rhino lined (not professionaly done) and they pull jetskis on a regular basis.  Each are washed down everyday and maintained regulary.  The average life span is 2 years (about 1300 hours) which seems kinda short to me.  I am not to experenced with UTV's so I don't know what to expect out of any other UTV.

We plan on getting a new UTV next year and I am hoping to get help in choosing and outfitting the new vehical.  Is there a UTV that you would consider a better choice and what modifacations could be made to get some more life out of it.  I understand that the Kawasaki 610 is one of the cheaper UTVs but would a more expensive UTV last longer.  Rust from the salt and abuse of everyday use is the main problem, so is there a better way to protect it from the elements.

Any help would be greatly appretated.

Matt

Re: Ocean Rescue UTV

Sorry if this comes off as a "which UTV is the best" question, but I just haven't been able to find that much info on getting a UTV equiped for the beach.

Re: Ocean Rescue UTV

Look into the new Polaris Ranger they have a high towing capacity and a bench seat like the mule. As far as rust, rhino line is good but it should be pro job or at least sprayed on in order to get it into small cracks and holes. It could also be repainted with heavy equipment paint and primer befor the rhino linner goes on. Other than that it would be some sort of oil base chemical like oil or grease but im sure no one wants to see an oil slick on the water.

I filled my Rhino frame with an oil/wax mix befor I ran it in the winter. the salt on Maine roads in the winter is just as bad a salt water.

Re: Ocean Rescue UTV

Unless you cover/fill every hole with a rust preventative its going to kill it. Rhino would probably be your best bet. Have a shop tear it down and coat the thing real well and you should get a lot more life out of it. If any rust does poke through, nip it in the butt right away. Beaches are probably the worst environment for any vehicle.

If it's not fun why do it?
