Re: Which CDI / ECU for 08 Rhino 700?!

Ok, 40 mph. aint gonna cut it!  First of all I'm not real sure if they call it an ECU or CDI on the 700 FI.  Anyway, you guys get the idea.  I'm planning on buying one of these deals this week.  Which one is the best?  I know there are several different brands and it seems everybody sells something different.  So,  should I go with Dynatek, Black Rhino, MSD, Dragon Fire, etc.  Which one?!  Right now, the Rhino is totally stock with a full cage and back seat.  I have no plans for nothing to fancy in the future, just a clutch sheave and that's it.  Let me know what you guys think.  I appreciate your opinions and help!

Re: Which CDI / ECU for 08 Rhino 700?!

I dont personly have one in my 700 but i know a few people who use Black Rhino and they seem to like it. They said it gave them more top speed and a little power. I dont know the real specs on what you gain. All i know is that they have not had any trouble with the Black Rhino so far.   I know that may not be much help but its just what I have heard through the grape vine.

Re: Which CDI / ECU for 08 Rhino 700?!

they had problems with the early dynatec. black rhino and dragon fire just put their tags on other peoples cdi's like dynatec or msd. i have a dynatec and is worthless by its self plus you can program the msd or the vdi without having to have a fuel controler. i would do a machined sheeve first. their is your 50 mph and keeps your rpm lower almost like a over drive.

[font=Tahoma:bf274ebd78] [/font:bf274ebd78]if you plan on going on with other mods besides just a sheave get a msd unit it has lots of adjustability in it you will need it to tune as you add exhaust / cam /  piston ect  big_smile

Re: Which CDI / ECU for 08 Rhino 700?!

I just ordered the msd box. It raises the rev limiter and does all the tunning you would ever need to do, and would work good for future mods too. Every one i talked to swear by the msd.

Re: Which CDI / ECU for 08 Rhino 700?!

My stock 09 with 3 miles on it went from 40 MPH to 46 with the MSD on setting 3. I installed a sheave from UTV Crap this week, with a full windshield and a passenger it went 56 MPH.

MSD and programmable ecu's are really a good ignition upgrade, but you have to balance it with internal upgrades like port and polish, cams gears etc to have its full potential.

Re: Which CDI / ECU for 08 Rhino 700?!

ECU Programmers have come a long way.  The Bazzaz unit is without question the best we have worked with.  We have been using them on SuperBikes in Pro Racing for a few years now and the ATV/UTV units are amazing.  You can either do a stand alone EFI unit and program it or you can add an A/F sensor and plug in ratio's and let it self map.  You can make adjustments anywhere in the RPM range by RPM, throttle position and gear selection.  It's a very cool system and we have a lot of experience with them.

Re: Which CDI / ECU for 08 Rhino 700?!

OK... I have a second here.

The Bazzaz Unit works several ways.  Their website is www.bazzazperformance.com

Dont get hung up on Retail, I'll work pricing for you guys.

The Bazzaz is a piggyback on the stock ECU.  You program it with a laptop via the software it comes with.  It works like an excel spreadsheet giving you values for RPM/Throttle position to adjust fueling.  You can build a map or download preset maps, it also comes with a good base map.

The best way to do it is with the add-on AFM unit that comes with a wideband A/F Sensor and the amplifier to hook into the Bazzaz piggyback.  Then you go into your software and set target A/F ratio's.  You can set the entire range for say 13.5/1 or you can adjust certain areas of the map to run richer or leaner.  Many units you can program certain RPM's in each gear as well.  So you can REALLY customise the way your machine runs.  You can start the automap program and go run then look at the map and lock it in or you can just let it continually automap every time you ride.  It will adjust on the fly for exactly what you are doing.  It takes less than 5 minutes to work with the mapping and get it going.  Once you have done it a time or 2 you can do it in a couple of minutes.

This technology was built in Professional Superbike racing to take the guess work and constant dyno runs out of the equasion, it's time tested and works very well.  We install 3 - 5 a week in our shop and most of those are from referals form customers we did an install for.

Re: Which CDI / ECU for 08 Rhino 700?!

im assuming this unit with the auto tune would work well with the elevation changes in utah
and other higher elevation changes.
compared to the msd unit right????
