I am new to UTV's in the sense that I have never owned one. I have riden in them plenty and am about to purchase my first. My question is, what can a UTV actually go through without breaking down. I am a good judge of how deep of a mud hole they can go through but more specificaly I see some videos and have seen it first hand UTVs going through water as tall as the vehicle itself. To me it just seems that would damage the engine in some way. I know they have snorkels and aftermarket products but it just doesnt seem like it would be healthy for the engine and other components.

Most sidexsides like ATVs have pretty good seals on all components, electrical, drive line and engine.
Vented properly with snorkels deep water (should) not bother anything for short periods of time in deep water.
Just about everything has some sort of drain like the belt case, air box and battery box that should be drained and checked after being in deep water.
