Hi all. Im new to this site, so please bear with me. I apologize if this isnt in the correct forum. Im doing some research for my fire company on the Polaris Ranger 800 HD for us to use on brush fires, and rescues in the woods. We are debating the Polaris, or a Kubota UTV 900. In your opinions, which would be better? Im a bit weary on the belt drive of the Polaris. Im afraid that may be a headache down the road. Whats the performance of their belt drive? Im kinda familiar with other belt drives, in the essence that is they get wet, they slip. Is that correct? Now this machine isnt going to for fun and play, its going to be worked, and probably worked hard too. Any imput would be great. Thanks..

The ranger will do anything that the kubota will do. The two things the Polaris will do better is get you there faster and the suspension is a lot better for transversing obstructions  . They are both good machines and I don't see any issues with the belt system as long as the maintenance is kept up. They are sealed in an enclosure to keep them dry and I have done stream crossings with no issues and load it down with chainsaws and a trailer to haul firewood out of the hills, for this I do make my own trails. Also the military use them as well........

Ive seen the videos of where the Polaris' suspension is alot nicer on the passengers. As far as speed, that really isnt a concern. Just doing the research to see which is the better buy. Thats good to know that you havent had any issues with the belt. That will make it alot nicer to explain to everyone. That was my main concern about the whole topic. Thanks for the imput.
