Re: 800xp NOISE

Recently bought a 2010 800xp. It has a lot of slack in the rear differential causing a pop every time I shift between forward and reverse or take off slowly. I took it to my dealer and was told that it was normal. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Unfortunately You have a running gear that is entirely new for the Ranger staring in 2010. At this time I am personally not comfortable with this all in one transmission rear end set up. I am waiting to see all the issues that may come up before I would buy this new generation Ranger. zrated has one and If he does not chime in I would PM him if I were you and see If he has noticed the same problems. maybe he can shed some light on his regarding stuff he liked or disliked before he highly modified his. It would be good info for future buyers.....

Re: 800xp NOISE

I didn't know this was a new setup. I guess a little time will tell how good it is. Thanks for your reply.

Re: 800xp NOISE

Are you sure it is the differential?
I have noticed that the transmission belt engages at about 2,000 RPM. It’s kind of like having a high stall on an automatic transmission car. I don't like it, but it is normal.

On the other hand, I did have to replace a $400. Clutch because of "Heat" issues. It did make a bad Clunk when starting out. Apparently it had left noticeable wear marks on the clutch shaft. Make sure you get that checked before your warranty expires. I had to pay for it out of pocket.
They now have an “Updated design” with larger bearings.

Was the belt slipping excessively to cause this heat issue :?: and are you talking about the wear marks on the shaft that the sheaves slide on or was the marks on the sheaves themselves :?: .

Re: 800xp NOISE

I believe it is inherent of the 800 XP. Mine does it too. It sounds alot softer with fresh fluid. When my warranty runs out this month I am going to try amsoil chain case fluid and see if there is a difference. My clutch start to engage at 1500 rpms. If I hold 1500 rpms the Ranger starts to roll after a few seconds forward or reverse. I get a clunk mainly going to reverse for the first time after startup and intermittently also.
