the fuel pump gets clogged real easy, you should carry some spares. When you say explosions, do you mean backfiring when you let off the throttle???
That would be a jetting issue. Stock rhino runs lean

Anyone had their fuel pump stop working? I can not find anything apparent that is wrong with it. Any recommendations on repair or replacing with electric? Thanks.
Funny story - went for a ride with my wife today to Mineral Flats. Got to the top of the trail (about 10,700' - 25 miles), turned around and made it 50 yards. Fuel pump not pumping any fuel. Machine has about 300 miles/35hrs on it. I am sweating it, no one on the trail (wussies without a Rhino:) and we crossed some very technical terrain (rock crawling). Knew I could coast some of it, but with out power we would not get over the rocks. Bypassed the pump, plugged the presure relief line with a stick, disconnected the return line and routed to the side of the passenger seat. Had my wife blow in to the line occasionally and then plug with her finger to keep presure in the tank. It worked!!! (I affectionetly been calling her "Fuel Pump":) No BJ jokes please! We made it back, could have been a very long day / night.

Hahaha. Great story! That's one MacGyver himself would be proud of. Yamaha needs to add that technique to the owners manual!
Glad you both made it back safe.
Still laughing....

So - my elec. fuel pump installed! Running rough, checked all my vac. lines and return lines - all ok. Re-adjusted my A/F mixture and it is fine. Will take it out Friday to test it - I will be staying close to the truck for now :?

So I finally tested the electric fuel pump before heading to the dunes - it failed  Pump is fine until you give the engine some throttle, then it stops pumping until I bring it back down to idle. It will keep pumping until I apply throttle. I have gone through everything - no clogged lines or pickup, checked voltage (constant, no change from idle to high RPM), made sure old vacuum line plugged... even replaced pump with a new one - WTF :x
HELP - I missed out on any fun this weekend. I am considering suici... er Rhino detonation  I already jumped up a down and recited my 4 letter repertoire, only made me feel better for a moment

Plan to install clear fuel lines so I can see what is going on - I am baffled. I ordered a Mikuni Hi-Vol pump - will pick it up tomarrow and use the electric as a back up (or target practice)

Keep us updated on how this all works out. Good Luck!

Went for a ride today, Mikuni pump works perfect! Electric still has me baffled - capped it and will keep as an emergency pump. The Rhino is ready for Moab

Im glad ya got something worked out on it! The "emergency pump" is not a bad idea though. Could be used for many different things.

A local dealer (Heber, Utah) got it for me. Mikuni part # DF62-702 .
I believe any dealer could order one. You can buy the same here:

It sounds like i have the same fuel pump problems. Stalling out at all levels of throttle and kicking back in after its back at idle. I have tried everything and thought it was initially a jetting problem, no the case.
HAs any figured out what the problem is with these pumps? Any input would help as I can't go out riding right now!!
