Re: AC tailgate cables

The cables that hold up my tailgate are way to long. It came that way. I looked at it and thought that maybe that i could shorten them so i could use it as a seat...ya know , set on the tailgate. Then i thought that maybe the plastic might not support the wieght of 2 adults setting on it. Am i over thinking it? can you buy cables that will allow the gate to hang level/ Help me out guys. Thanks , Dan

Re: AC tailgate cables

For what its worth I used some light chain, seems to be holding up OK.  I used the chain for a year now and the only problem is that it sometimes gets caught in the tail gate opening when I slam it shut.  Good luck.........................

Personally before I built and installed the spare tire carrier for my Polaris ranger there was a few times that some people I know used my tailgate as a seat and I had to tell them to get the hell off because it was warping it real bad roll . Mine sits down like A normal truck tailgate and that seems to attract people to use it for A seat  . They are not built for all that weight and since yours sits in the down position I would leave it that way to prevent the temptation for others to use It as a seat   wink .

Re: AC tailgate cables

I would not really call them friends but more like acquaintances that come along and use other peoples stuff without really asking. they were around the 200lbs range. They may have changed the design on them on the new body style after 2009 because they did change the bed style. They don't normally stay warped but they bend bad during the loading of them. I have taken mine apart and added some steel to it and there is not much inside for strength. They just are not rated for that amount of weight and I would prefer not to buy another new one.... .
