Re: Side x side through North Central Idaho

Marie and I just got back from an awesome trip. We unloaded last Thursday near Darby Montana and drove the MacGruder Corridor Road up the West Fork of the Bitteroot river up and over in the Salmon River Ridges. We drove to near Dixie, Idaho and spent the night at White Water Ranch on the Main Salmon River. This was a 135 mile day. Friday left the Salmon River headed north for Elk City, then over Forest roads and trails to the Selway River drainage to Selway Falls. Down river to Syringa Idaho and stayed at River Dance Lodge. This was 115 miles with 7 on pavement. Saturday we left Syringa and drove North to the Lolo Hostoric trail which is forest road (?) 500. This is the trail that Lewis and Clark traveled from Montana to the Columbia River and back in 1805 and 1806. We finished the trip near Lolo, Montana. Total trip mileage was 368 miles in 3 days!

It was a fantastic trip with wonderful weather, great Idaho Perfect scenery and dang good company. We didn't take a lot of pictures but will try to post some up soon. If anyone has the time and desire to go, this is a trip I would gladly do again!

Re: Side x side through North Central Idaho

It is very fun country, certainly not Moab style riding but very fantastic scenery. Also when you get to some of the little Idaho towns like Elk City, or Lowell you meet some very interesting people!

If anyone has much interest this would be a great group ride.

There is another ride I have been wanting to do, which is a southern loop out of Challis, ID. Looks to me like it is about 800 milesof trails and forest roads, with probably less than 30 being on pavement!

Re: Side x side through North Central Idaho

The start of the trip is about 6.5 hours from SLC, add 2.5 more from the end of the trip. The "little house" thing is a fire look out called Burnt Knob fire look out. There are many of them in Idaho and some are still manned from June through September.
