Re: New Member from Norhtern MN

I thought I would start a new thread for this one.
I have been into ATV's in Northern MN for most of my life. I now have a four year old son and I thought a side X side would be a good addition so I could take him with me. This weekend I went out on most of the trails that I ride just to get an idea of how wide they were and whether or not a Side by Side would even be able to make it through. I think that I could go on most of the trails that I normally ride.
Here are the questions,
Is the DNR hammering people for riding UTV's off road? I am not familiar with the laws, but I have heard that they are fairly restrictive.
Is there anybody else here from Northern MN that rides a S X S exclusively?

I really see alot of advantages in being able to use a S X S in MN and also being able to take my son or my father out to South Dakota or to Michigan Turkey hunting. I just don't want to buy one and then find out that I am restricted to dirt roads or minimum maintenance roads. I can do those in my truck.
Any advice would be great.

Welcome to the forum Swamp Ape. I'm not familiar with the local MN laws. I think you'll find that most stock UTV's will go anywhere an ATV would go. You start running into trouble with the long travel kits that extend the wheel base.

Re: New Member from Norhtern MN

All I know is Maine and NH laws, Polaris Razor is alowed on all ATV trails, Yamaha Rhino and Polaris Razor S are frowned on but tolerated.

My Rhino has never let me down off road and has been put to the test many times, Im sure other major brands will perform as well.
My only suggestion to you is that if you plan to do some really rough off road is to invest in some full skidplates, most UTVs have bellypans that cover the motor and running gear but not the plastic floors. I have full Warn skid plates and they have really payed off.

Re: New Member from Norhtern MN

Thanks for the information and advice. I think SXS is going to be the way to go. I think that I am going to look for something like a used Rhino I can put on the trailer or in the bed of my truck. I also figure if I buy used I can afford to buy another smaller used atv. Thanks again for the advice, glad I stopped by.
