Hello there, i need a little help and i have come to the side by side forums for you expertise. I work for a law enforcement agency in Southern California. We have a beach patrol officer that rides on a old ratty quad that is dying very rapidly.
we are looking to buy a side by side that will be done up with the lights and siren and all the good stuff that makes this job fun.
we need one that is durable, reliable, and can handle being driven by a cop in the sand. we would like a two seater that has some power behind it. ive looked at the Rhino, Mule, Artic Cat, John Deere, Kubuto, Polaris (RZR), even the Joyner ( which i thought looked pretty cool but there was little info on it and read on here that it is on the same level as the Ford Pinto.)
since you know everything about these things, just give me a heads up as which is the best starting point for my department, or some other ones that i havent heard of yet that could be better suited to my application.
Thanks for the help.

Don't buy a joyner--chinese crap that isn't made well and has no-power
I am not a fan of polaris, but might be a good choice for your uses.
The rhino would be perfect, The ranger at ocitillo wells drive them.
A few add-ons and your busting people.

Im with max, dont buy a joyner. I would either go with a Rhino or a RZR. Thare are many factors that would make one decide between the two. If you are going to haul much equiptment, etc. the rhino is the way to go, tons more bed space. The RZR has more power. Both will do well in the sand. There are many other things that set them different from one another.

Agreed - no Joyner!
Rhino and Ranger have the best aftermarket offerings by far and the RZR will have also but is still new - let them work the bugs out first. I think this important because you can usually find better than stock parts for less $ and any add-ons required. Ranger would hold more perp's and equipment, the RZR would run them down faster and it will hold a gun , but the Rhino would be the best of both Get the Silver Sport - with lights and police gear it would look awesome!

Right now its looking like the Rhino, or the RZR, but more like the Rhino. I agree that Silver would look awesome with the lights and everything, but my boss wants to go with green. Our belts hold our guns, but maybe i could talk them into letting me put a .50 cal on it. Nah, too messy.

well it seems that Badley and my boss think alike, he thinks that the Silver sport would look awesome with the lights and everything. he even has a picture of it posted up in his office. we are just waiting for final approval and for the dealer to call back with a quote.

Wait a minute, this is a beach patrol Rhino we're talking about here. It has to have aftermarket yellow plastic, and Pamela Anderson wearing a red swimsuit sitting in the passenger seat. Did you say you needed someone to drive it for you?

if and when i can post up some pics, i will. As for Pam Anderson, i was thinking go with a more modern version, ill sub out Anderson for Jessica Simpson, Alba, or Biel...

So just giving you an update, my supervisors decided that the rhino wasnt going to cut it, sorry to say, me and the guy above me really wanted a rhino. (we went to Mission Motorsoprts and saw one that looked like it was done up for the baja 1000, looked just like the General Lee, if the Hazzard boys drove rhinos!) thats what made us want one so bad. but the higher ups want a jeep now so i just wanted to thank you for all the help and this has got me wanting one for my personal use.

Are the Joyner rigs really that bad? I really like the idea that it has a regular transmission in it and not a CVT belt. I also like the 4 seat option on the 650 commando. I currently have a polaris Ranger that I have had to replace the drive clutch on several times and probably a dozen belts in the past two years. The dealer tells me we need to run it in low range all of the time but then your always over reving the motor to get anywhare. I picked the Ranger over the Rhino due to the extra bed space and the three person bench seat vs. the two seat only rhino. I see Honda is coming out with a shaft drive side by side but the Joyner looks better and has the 4 seat option.
