Hey, everybody - great website. I am a newbie here, and have a question about my '07 Mule 610. I plan on adding a cab, overhead console with radio, heater, plow lights, wipers, etc... I know I will have to go to a bigger battery, but are there any options for upgrading the charging system so it can keep up? I have a Battery Tender and plan on using that also, but I wanted to make sure that I didn't kill the battery if I was out for extended periods plowing (I plow out 5-6 other people as well and am sometimes out for several hours). Also, my brother and Dad use the Mule to plow if I am at work and I wanted to kind of "fool-proof" it to keep someone else from being stranded. Obviously, I should watch my power management (leave radio off, turn plow lights on only when needed). I have seen a kit from Polaris for the Ranger that allows you to add a second battery, and the charging system will handle them both, according to my understanding. However, the Polaris charging system may be far different than the Mule's. Is there anything like that for the Mule? (The Polaris kit I believe is ~$200, and I would prefer to not have to try and make it work on a Mule if I don't have to.) Also, I have no idea if the Mule system could even handle such a set-up. I haven't seen anything like that from Kawasaki, and they don't mention upgrading the battery in any of their publications on the cabs, radios, etc... Or, in someones experience, is the bigger battery and Battery Tender enough? Just wondering what your ideas were. - Thanks!

I contacted a company that makes replacement stators, and Kawasaki. The stator company said that they do not produce a stator with increased output, only one to stock specs (although better quality). Kawasaki does not offer a stator with increased output either. They recommended either a larger battery or running two batteries in parallel to increase capacity, and installing a volt-meter so you can guage the battery condition (and start turning things off if needed). They also recommended using a battery charger after use to maintain the batteries. Kawasaki told me they do NOT recommend any external lights as this would likely overwhelm the system. An interesting note (not one that I had thought about), if you increase the stator output, you would then cause an increase in drag on the motor and bog it down a bit, according to Kawasaki, and the engine was not necessarily designed with this in mind.

Adding a bigger or second battery will only add reserve capacity and will take longer to charge two batteries then one off the stock stator, This is OK as long you charge it after a ride with a battery charger. I do not know much about mules but is there any way to add a pulley off the engine crank somehow for a small automotive style alternator. I am also not sure if it also may have a PTO ability as well. One last thing is on some road race cars and Winston cup cars they run a alternator off the drive shaft but it will only charge as long as the UTV is moving at cruising speed  .

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure if you can add a pulley or about the PTO status of the motor, but those are good ideas. I had not thought of that.
