Re: Purchasing a Used Ranger UTV

I am looking at purchasing a used Ranger and have been looking at the ads online in Ebay, Tractorhouse.com, etc. and see a wide variation of hours/mileage on the advertised units. I am wondering what a average number of miles/hours per year is considered light/moderate/heavy usage for a UTV. Is there any such information readily available or is there a rule of thumb that experienced folks use?

There is no way to answer this question. Hours is based on engine run time which is more accurate then drive run time. If the Polaris is used for farm work or whatever and does stuff like winching and other stuff like that it could have thousands of hours and only have gone 600 miles on it. It also could have 600 miles but have 2000 hrs because it was not moving anywhere. Hours of run time is more important then miles when it comes down to the engine wear. but if the machine was used for patrolling in like boarder patrol then looking at miles on the drive line would become important. It is all on how it was used by the owner.....

Re: Purchasing a Used Ranger UTV

Thanks for the reply and the great explanation. I guess that the only way to be sure about what you are buying is by buying new.
