Re: tps

It is located on the side of the throttle body. It is black with a wire coming of it. It should read .660 volts at idle on 2006 rangers. It should read smooth consistent even voltage when the throttle is raised from closed to full open and back again several times. If you do a search there is a full procedure on how to do this on this site that i have done some time ago.....

Re: tps

Be very careful on the adjustment. It's easy to get the adjustment way off, and cause drivability issues. It really pays to have the right tools and experience for this one.

It is most likely made by Delphi but I have no idea on what car or truck it came from. Almost all the connectors on a Polaris are made from Delphi and they have a good catalog to look things up for them but the automotive component side of Delphi trying to identify parts is not that well done on there site. I have requested a catalog but we will see how that goes. I have not been able to find anywhere on there site to order certain parts catalogs and there online system requires make and model the part comes from which is useless in trying to match up parts through pictures or schematics :!:  :x

Re: tps

On another note, Polaris has some issues with the connectors that are not water tight like the splice savers and in some cases water tight connectors that were not sealed up properly. If the UTV is used in wet climates allot or gets washed all the time and gets wet the connectors get corroded and they become resistive which changes what the ECU sees. I have found this to cause many problems with the way the machine runs and operates. This problem can cause engine overheat problems because the ECM does not get the on command to turn the fan on. The ECU will see different voltages and Resistances that will make the engine run rich or lean and could be sporadic in nature just like a bad TPS sensor or Tmap/Tbap sensor.

You need to do a visual inspection of all the connectors for corrosion or burning. You also need to test the pins from the ECM or the ECU to each sensor and make sure the connections are good then go ahead and adjust the sensor itself. One other note is when changing out the TPS sensor you do not need to do the whole base setup first like the manual says. You also do not need all the special tools as well and this can be done by back probing the connector and turn the key on and then make the adjustment.

If you install the new sensor and set it to .660 volts and it idles correctly then you are good to go. If it idles way to low or way to high then you may need to do the base setting and that is because the throttle body was not set up properly from the manufacture or was tampered with. When you install a bored out throttle body you can not use the base adjustments anyways and have to do the trial and error approach. this is done by going back and forth from the plate adjustment then adjust the TPS many times till the idle is correct with the proper TPS voltage, that is where it is very time consuming and should be done by qualified people...

Re: tps

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum so I will give you a little back ground and then my recent experiences.   I work for the DOD and we have several of the 2008 700 V Twin EFI Rangers.  I am trying to correctly diagnose and correct the problems without throwing many not needed parts at them.  We recently had one that would not idle nor would it run well between 1200 and 1900 rpm.  The first issue was low fuel pressure 28psi needed to be 36 to 39 I believe or close; so new fuel pump.  then 2 codes crank position sensor, and tps.  we installed both and after reading many blogs took it to the local dealer.  the dealer installed a new throttle body because we had adjusted the idle screw on the throttle body.  we got it back yesterday and started fine idled fine, but backfired and missed between 1200 and 1900.  the mechanic at the dealer said the throttle cable is sticking.  I didn't beleive that would cause an issue, but it did.  I replaced the cable this morning, and what a difference.  but still has a little pop like a preignition firinig our the throttle body.  I talked with another polairs certified mechanic who told me about replacing the t map sensor and "flashing" or updating the computer with new parameters for the map sensor.  the ranger is scheduled to go in next week wed.  for the flash providing the dealer has all the info.  Also when we got the ranger back the battery light was flashing so I checked the battery, and no charge.  The rectifier/regulator is bad.  I swapped parts with another (it's always nice to have another exact same machine to do that)  so I need to get a rectifier also.  I have read alot of posts on this forum and have found some great info.  any other comments/info would be appreciated.

Park the ranger in a very dark garage at night and start it. turn off all the lights and watch around where the spark plug wires plug into the spark plugs and rev it up to where it starts misfiring and backfiring. look for jumping arc from the wires to the engine and do the same at the coil pack.

You also may still have an out of adjustment TPS and your dealer screwed you on a throttle body as well. All he had to do is re adjust the screw. Also meter the wires back from the TPS to the ECM to make sure there are no connections going bad in the splice savers or the connectors. you will need to have the service manual to run the wiring down. The splice savers may also be related to some of your other issues..

One last thing. The 700 is a in-line twin and not a V twin......
