Re: In the market for 1st SxS!! Looking at Ranger 800??

I am in the market for my 1st SxS! I am leaning towards the Ranger 800 - Is the 2012 better than the 2011? Suggestions/Comments?

I plan on using the SxS for farm work, hunting, and trail riding. The unit will not be pushed too hard but want the capability to do so.

I do not want a crew and it must be able to seat 3!

If you own the 2011 or 2012 Ranger 800 what are some pros vs cons? Would you purchase it again? If not what would you buy? Is there anything you wish you would have known before you purchased? Please help me and my family make the best decison.

Thank you in advance for assisting.

Re: In the market for 1st SxS!! Looking at Ranger 800??

Well I have a new 2010 and it is great. I use it for light stuff around the house, hunting and just ridding the country roads. I thinkk it is a great machine but have not had it lon,g so maybe I just dont know enough about it yet. But so far I really like it. 53 mph on any gravel road is fast enough for me. Try them all out before buying.  Well I know this did not help much but good luck.

I drive a 500, but the 800 sounds like it fits the bill exactly for what you want. Some 2010 and 2011 full-size Ranger owners have complained about heat under the seat or around the feet. There are fixes for that, and I think the 2012s have added insulation to solve the heat issue. That's all second-hand info, but I hope it helps. You will love the Ranger!  big_smile

Re: In the market for 1st SxS!! Looking at Ranger 800??

I almost never buy first model years of anything because every model year after refines things that was done wrong or incorrectly on the first run models. My 2005 was somewhat an exception and has been reliable but in 2006 they corrected a lean condition with a ECU update and in 2007 was the change in gearing and a quieter transmission and the addition of replacing the PCM with a stand alone voltage regulator and adding electronic gauges. As for 2010 models I would stay away from due to the 800 and one piece trans and rear differential but would think by 2011 and 2012 models most of those problems that would come up should be addressed. I know that the 2011 models had to meet new EPA standards which had a small impact in power output on some models. I would go with the 2012 model over the 2011 model but would still be OK with the 2011. I would not ever buy the 2010 model and would consider a 2009 or 2008 before that model even though it was a 700 motor.

I love my 2011 Ranger XP 800. I can do a lot more with it then I ever could with my RZR.
