Re: Winch rebuild?

Bought used 06 Ranger 700 with Polaris Glacier plow & Venom 4000 hardcore series winch. When I loaded it on the trailer the guy I bought it from said, he'd always used the winch to cinch down the front when transporting. It ran out fine, wound back in and held fine. When I got home it wouldn't work at all. I finally got it to wind back in with jumpers off a battery directly on the posts on the motor. All that would happen with the switch was a clicking sound from control box. Now it will not do anything with juice to the posts, I tried off jumper pack, battery charger, and jumper cables off my pickup. I see I can get a motor off Venoms site for $38 and brushes for $5. Never rebuilt an electric motor but not afraid to try, I've done a bit of shade tree wrenching, any input or advice would be appreciated, thanks

I have done motors and some are easy and others can be difficult. Your problem may not be brushes and could be windings or as simple as the control relay. If it is not the relay and you not having done motors before it may be better to just get the motor since it sounds cheaper then getting into a big headache and find out it is in the windings.....
