I have a 2008 crew ranger and when it gets wet, rain, through a creek etc, it starts to spudder and will not run. Its almost as if it has bad fuel, but I only have a problem when it rains or I get the thing wet, like a pressure washer , or run through a creek, Is there anything under the hood, in the floor board, or in the belly of the ranger that would cause it to spudder and not go when wet, I know its a general question, but we are trying to get to the bottom of this. It does not appear that water is getting under the hood near any of the electronics????? What could it be. As soon as we get dry weather , I can leave it for a day, and when its dry its fine?????? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. CCW

It is most likely where the plug wires goes into the head. Water can not escape the holes and gets trapped there till it evaporates and you have cross fire around the boot area. Start using a dielectric compound to seal the boot area...

get a rhino they love water
Some dry day got out and start the ranger, with it running spray some water on it, do it in small areas spary the back first and work your way forward, dont spry it all at once.
Spray a small area and go for a ride if its not bothering spray another area. sooner or later you will find the area that is efected by water and it will give you an idea of where the problem is.

Start using a dielectric compound to seal the boot area...
I love water crossings I try and use dielectric compound anywhere I have electrical connections.

epoxy filled heat shrink tube works well to.

I have a kymco 500 and when it gets wet enough the fuel pump acts up and causes it to spudder and die.. If i tap the fuel pump it starts right back up.. Run it for a while then dies again.. Maybe same issue?? Any ideas??

This thread is older then dirt but I will contribute again. Ranger 700s and 800s have this issue because there is no way for water to drain out of the spark plug holes due to a design flaw. If you do a stream crossing water enters the plug holes and sits there till it boils out which causes arching. This also happens after washing the engine down. The only fix is lots of dielectric compound which is not a sure fix for the problem but helps. It is all in the design and there is not much that can be done about it .
