I'm selling my ATV to buy a new UTV this month. My issue is I need to be able to haul 6-10 bags of feed to my hunting locations and carry work items around a small farm 400 acres in size. Im needing a UTV for 50% hunting and 50% just traveling around the farm working. I am buying a product that is sold/serviced by a local dealer so that leaves me with Polaris,John deer, and Kawasaki product lines. I have been looking at the local show rooms/lots and like the looks and pricing of the Polaris product line and that dealer in town seems to be the best services record from word of mouth locals atv/utv owners. I have a couple models I'm eyeing the 500 and 800 EFI mid size,EV, and XP 800. The XP 800 maybe a no go as I'm alittle worried that it's larger size may not work as well on some of my ATV trails through the woods but the XP looks heavier built to me vs the mid size 500/800 EFI models. The two models I'm really leaning towards are the 500 EFI and EV.
I have drove a 2012 EV a few hours my buddy has I love the way it rides and it is QUIET which would be great for hunting. The battery life should be a non issue for traveling around a small farm where 5 miles of driving would be a lot as most of my trips are less then a 1 miles and back home. That said electric power I just don't know long term will everything hold up as well as a gas unit (AC motor, batteries)? I think the EV may totally fit my needs for short runs and quiet service better than gas powered machines. On the 500/800EFI are they really loud machines? Having a small area to hunt mainly 200 areas of my farm being stealthy is pretty important coming and going. One dealer said a stealth type muffler helps to reduce noise on the gas UTV's also. Thanks for any feedback.

If I were to use a SxS for what you describe I would get the Ranger 800HD. I see they don't make that model any more though. I don't know why, it was awesome, load leveling rear shocks were a nice option. So I guess just the full size 800. I don't care for the midsize much, they still have the strut front suspension and aren't quite as heavy duty in my opinion (full size has dual a-arms with coil over shocks). I have heard of problems with the EV also. Not that the gas engine will never have a problem but parts and support seem more readily available for the gas engines.

I went to the dealer today and drove the EV,500/800 mid size and full size XP 800-900 models. The full size XL 900 was a beast loved that one the xp 800 has engine under seat the 900 has it under the bed the 900 was quieter better muffler and less heat and vibration. I liked the 900 and EV the best now I will have to do some serious thinking.

The Ranger XP900 is the ultimate rig! Not even in the same catergory as the EV to me. I only didn't mention it because it wasn't on your list of "considering" in your first post and it's the most expensive, but for a good reason.

Also if you don't need it right now you might want to wait until July/August time frame since they will release the 2014 line-up. No use kicking yourself in the back side right after you just dropped some serious $$$$$

Thanks for that tip I was wondering when the 14's would start arriving. I wonder if they will have any new Ranger models or major improvements on current models? The two models I like best the EV and XP 900 don't have any rebates at all right now so to be honest I should just wait and buy a 2014 model for the same money.

I just bought a 2013 XP 900 W/EPS. Love it... I even pulled my 5X14 trailer around up into the shop and it did not know it was there.... Squatted 1" as I put the trailer on.... My old Rincon bottomed out doing the same thing...
I got the last Sage Green 900 W/ EPS in AZ. I had to come as a dealer trade with my local dealer...
Go with EPS if you get the change... 1 finger steering.......................................... SWEET..
I wonder what the difference will be on the 2014 model?
