Re: Clicking noise

When going down hills I have this awful clicking noise coming from tranny or rear diff.  Is this the rear brake hanging up, is this normal?  I just want to make sure I dont tear anything up.

Re: Clicking noise

Is the the only time you hear the noise?  Is your foot on the brake?
Really shouldn't be a brake issue, unless the disc is warped or shaft is bent, but then you should hear the noise more often.
If you apply power while going down a hill does the noise go away?

Re: Clicking noise

If I let off the brakes completely the noise stops.  If I brake hard and lock up the tires the noise stops. Is there something I can adjust on the rear brake to help this?

Re: Clicking noise

Sorry I took so long, I kinda forgot.
Anyways, as far as the noise, as long as its not really loud it should be ok.  there is some play there and you will get some noise like a little click or rub maybe.  I don't know that there is anything to adjust to get rid of it.

Re: Clicking noise

I replaced my rear parking brake, which was bent, and I cant hear the noise anymore. I think what was going on was my parking brake was hanging up. Thanks for the tips.

Re: Clicking noise

I have a 07 Prowler that is making the same kind of noise. It sounds alot like a dirt bike when you are gearing down real quick. It does only make the noise when I brake hard, mostly when its moving pretty fast. I only have 250 miles on the machine and its done it from day one. Like lots of folks i dont know what noises are normal on belt drive equipment. Another note, my parking brake wont hold if there is a slight incline. Is this something i should take it back to the dealer for or could someone point me in the right direction. Thanks Dan

Re: Clicking noise

That clicking noise is from the rear brake because it is mounted to the driveshaft. If your brakes are wet or really dry you might hear it more often. With the warmer weather I have been hearing it every once in a while. Don't worry its not going to hurt anything its just really annoying!!

Re: Clicking noise

I have a 2007 Prowler also and it started the noise at about 200 miles. I took it to the dealer to get it fixed. He replaced the entire braking system trying to diagnos this problem. He finally called the manufacturer and they supposedly told him they knew of the problem and would be upgrading. It has been over a year and the dealer hasn't heard any news. Unfortunatly the noise has only gotten worse and sounds like it is goin to blow something up every time I step on the brake. I questioned another dealer about the problem and he said because the brake is on the driveline the noise is coming from the gear slack in the transmission. To repair it you have to tear the trany apart. I don't know what to do about it since I definatly won't get my money back out of it if I tried to sell it.
A few other problems I've had are; trany shift linkage is constantly needing adjusted, hard to start, emergency brake is hard to disengage and won't even hold on a slight incline (for instance when loading on a trailer it rolls off faster than I can get it strapped on), about a week after putting the bed bars on the bed rail the rail cracked at all four corners and I barely tightened them enough to get a full nut on the bolt, the floor pan is starting to rip out of the screws thet hold it on, and to top it all off it is very hard to steer.
Needless to say I'm not too happy about my expensive purchase. If they have this many problems with less than 600 miles then they are not as tough as advertised. I use mine on the farm everyday just to change water and carry a toolbox, it's pretty bad if they can't handle that.
If any body has any suggestions please reply.

If I was that unhappy with it I would put it up for sale, if it sells it sells, get what you can and cut your losses. If it is something you looking to do work with look into a Polaris Ranger or a Rhino. The Rhino may be smaller than the others but I work the HELL out of my 08 Rhino plowing snow all winter and towing a DR mower all summer and I have never had any trouble or had any noises. Im getting up in miles and hours.

Re: Clicking noise

That's good to hear... always remember to check and maintain you brake regularly to avoid accidents and problems.
