Re: Help with 08 700 xp

Hello. I am a newbe to this forum and also to the polaris brand. Everything I own is honda/kawasaki/ktm.
I started to look for my next toy (side x side) and everything leaned to the 2008 ranger 700xp le.
Just about Everything is good. But I have a woring sound or a wining sound. I was told it was from the belt design? I have  around 40hrs on it and this thin drives me crazy from 20 to35mph. is worst but it does it all the time. I am use to quality products and I cant belive anyone would
design something like this and let it go to production. I hope I havent made a $11,000 mistake.
I went back to the dealer and he told me that is the way they are. Can anyone chime in and help me with this.
I am ready to use it for a trade-in on some other brand. I dont know anyone that can let me ride on theres to see what
brand is best. Please help. Thanks, Timmy.

Re: Help with 08 700 xp

I have a 2005 xp and from what i know is that the transmissions tend to make a whining sound and it seems to be normal, I would at least check if there is metal in the fluid but that would require to drain the fluid from the gear case, As for the belt it really should not make that much noise unless the belt was damaged or defective, It is not that hard to check on the 2005 model and should be the same on the 2008 model, It is still new and things are still are working in, There will be some brake in metal in the fluids and i did my first break in fluid changes at 50 hours to get all the junk out of the systems, If you are really concerned about the problems you may want to take it back to the dealer for a check up. big_smile

I called the dealer today and they set me up for tomorrow. I hope they can fix this. I will post what happens.

Re: Help with 08 700 xp

I took it in saturday and the dealer drove it. He said they need to look into it. I have not got a call back yet on what they found.  After I dropped it off I went and bought a new 08 tereyx 750le. They took it out of the crate and loaded it up in the truck. When I get the ranger back Im going to do my own side x side line up and post on you tube. I like them both alot.
The 750 v-twin has more torque than the 700 inline. But the 700 is 3 or 4 mph faster. The polaris is fuel injected  and the teryx has cards. Two thums up for the polaris ranger. The ranger is a little wider. The teryx does not have a fuel guage on the
dash
The polaris has the better ride HANDS DOWN!
Theres a lot to say about both these machines. They are both 2008 le editions. This is going to be fun. lol

Re: Help with 08 700 xp

I understand that you have not picked up the ranger yet and was interested in what they found out but was not thinking that you would buy another machine to test against it, The Ranger XPs are not full blown performance machines and are built to haul loads and be used for hunting and farming and be a little bit of a performance machine as well, It was a ramped up version of the ranger 500 from 2004,They are held back on horsepower by the government regulations to 40 horse power maximum because of payload capacity, Do not ask me why!!!. That is why the rzr is allowed to have more power on them and more CC's, The ranger engine is a detuned version of the sportsman 700 efi Quad engine, That is why you see that the ranger xp people are putting the SP cams in with the SP ecu's,  the ranger comes stock with a less radical cam and ECU in which takes 5 to 6 horse power off the engines total horse power, the answer to the trex is the rzr and a hopped up rhino and not the ranger xp, they are two different animals for two different purposes, At some time I thought I would Buy a new long travel RZR sport to have my high speed fun with but i can't haul them both in my trailer at the same time.  :?

Re: Help with 08 700 xp

Well I just got into the side x side thing about two 1/2 months ago. I looked around and when I seen the ranger I liked it.
I liked the way it looked and the  large bed so I can haul my 100lb lab and a big cooler.
I talked to the dealer today and they told me that polaris is sending a new design gear set to quieten the drive belt. I cant wait to get it back.  You are right they are two different rides. Im glad to have them both.
I can tell you that the ranger was thought out well. Everything is snorkeled up where it needs to be. And all the electrial
as well. The reryx is not. Except the air box. I am giong to do all the rest myself.
When the ranger gets back Im going to have some video on you-tube.

Re: Help with 08 700 xp

Hope the transmission problem gets taken care of and remember that I have seen units shipped from Polaris with drive lines with no oils in them and i would make sure that you double check there work, When I received My 2005 it had no rear end oil and was glade to catch that when it came off the trailer, Also remember that if you modify it the Sp ecu will not work perfectly on your year machine and needs the Sp cam or one of the other performance cams out there and you can not unlock the two rear wheels with that ECU, You will also need a fuel controller module to re curve your fuel injection, The best starting point is a clutching kit and have it set up for what altitude you ride the most, That is one thing these rangers need the most and are cheap and easy to do, also remember that not all the manufactures of parts for these make improvements and some times slow the machines down so do the research before you buy so you don't waste your money, I can help you with that a little and have you talk to the proper people. big_smile  big_smile  :!:

Re: Help with 08 700 xp

Thanks for your help. Im sure I wont do any mods to the ranger. I definetly dont want to lose the single wheel drive.
I use it too much for yard work and golf corse. (i dont golf, just hang out there sometime) That is a big plus for the ranger.
They told me it would be the end of next week before they got the parts and installed them. I hope they have a good polairs mechanic. I will check all the fluids when I get it back also. That is kinda scarry.
Im sure I will have some questions for you. I dont know anyone around close that owns one.
Thats Another reason I bought the teryx my son is 15yrs old and we can ride together.
Ill let all you know how it turns out and what parts were changed.

Re: Help with 08 700 xp

Ok I got my Ranger back today and they fixed it. It is almost silent.  The problem was in the center transfer case.
They told me that polaris sent them a new upgrade gear set for it. They also told me there was some water in the oil but that
was not the problem. Is wasnt good anyway. It was loud from the first day.
Very little sound from it now. And the bad clunking sound between gears is almost gone also. I was not expecting to to be as good as it it. Now it makes my teryx sound loud.

Re: Help with 08 700 xp

I am truly glad that they were able to fix the XP, The next thing you need to do is extend the drive train vent tubes to prevent water from getting in the vents like what i saw on your picture, That is very important when doing water crossings, it is much more important on the front end since the locker is oil bathed and watter will have an effect on the locker system its self. Did they check the rest of the drive system for watter since they found it in the transmission, :?:   just a word of advice. big_smile  roll

Yes that is the first thing I did when I got it home. I extented the vent tubes up. I also changed all the other fluids.
There was no water in any of the other units.
About a week before I took it in I changed the engine oil and no water was in it eather.
