Re: RZR Stock Shock Settings

Hey all,

I ride quite  bit with a passenger and a little agressively.  My front AND rear stock shocks bottom often and wanted to play with the preload settings.

The manual says only to do that to carry a load.  Although my girlfriend is a real LOAD sometimes, I doubt the manual is talking about passengers.

Anyway,  Do any of you have shock preload settings you've found work really well.  My riding is mostly narrow washes and hardpack doubletrack.  Any help would be appreciated!

Re: RZR Stock Shock Settings

Do not worry what the manual says on this, I would start with one setting stiffer and see what happens, do not go more then two setting at the most, If that is not enough EPI makes heavy duty springs for most Polaris ATVs and UTVs but looking at my catalog does not show RZRs yet but that does not mean that they don't have them yet, they are comeing out with a new catalog soon,  big_smile

Re: RZR Stock Shock Settings

Well, I adjusted my front and rear stock shock preloads to setting 2, 3, and 4 (from softest).  I found that 4 gave the best compromise of ride quality and bottom resistance.  Also, the side benefit was added clearance (I was clearing baby head rocks I used to hear hitting my skid plate).

Downside is the RZR feels more tippy now.

In a straght line, I can go WAY faster now!  This will definitely hold me over till I feel I can Justify $2K fo SHOCKS!!!

Ranger Dale, thx for your imput.......I'll be looking for stiffer springs!

Re: RZR Stock Shock Settings

2K for shocks is worth the money, if you spend a lot of time on your rzr. I had a set of Elka piggy backs on mine ($2500) and I loved them. You can get away with $1000 on shocks, but you get what you pay for. You can adjust the ride height, compression, rebound, get more wheel travel, and a MUCH better ride. The extra 2" of wheel travel doesnt sound like much, but when stock travel is 10", that 2" makes a HUGE difference. My rear Elkas are dual rate. They have a softer small spring for smoothing the small bumps, then the stiffer large spring for bigger bumps, body roll, and jumping. I was able to disconnect the front sway bar with the Elkas, and it was STILL more stable than stock with a much better ride.

Re: RZR Stock Shock Settings

Phildo,  I'm probably gonna do it.  I have not decided between the Walker Evan's Shocks (about $1500 on ebay) or the Fox Shox ($2100 and have not found any yet).  Nice thing about the Fox Shox is the Compression AND Rebound adj.  I'll look at the Elka's too.

It would be nice to get the Walker Evan's and save about $500-600:)

Re: RZR Stock Shock Settings

Check the classified section. My Elkas are on there for $1500. They are like new, and they are better than the WE. I have a delivery to make in Havasu in about a week or so, I can bring them up if you want to see them in person.

Re: RZR Stock Shock Settings

Grant, you might want to consider a lift kit to gain you some clearance. I installed a 2" Rubberdown kit and was able to bring my preload back to "2".

Re: RZR Stock Shock Settings

I have a 2in Rubberdown lift on, and was on the softest shock setting, which rode real nice but after a few hundred miles the ground clearance dropped about 2 in, cranked on the shocks to hardest setting and gained all lost clearance back.

Next purchase will be some Highlifter springs to keep the sag out of the springs.
