I'm new to UTV's and actually in the process of shopping for a pair of UTV's. I was just wondering in anyone has ever ridden the Rubion Trail? Usually it's for jeeps and other 4x4 cars.
Where is the best place to start? Anyone?

I plan on riding Hollister and Oceano before I tackle the Rubicon but the Rubicon is definitely on the list of things to do. Thanks for the info...now I will prioritize the armor. I plan on getting 26" tires on the RZR with the purchase.

I've been through the Rubicon several times with my Rhino but haven't taken the RZR through yet. I think it's actually easier with a SxS than a full size rig. You can run it from the Lake Tahoe side on the East, or from the Georgetown/Loon Lake side on the West. You can get through the entire trail without a winch, and the only really hard places are Little Sluice, and Old Sluice. There is a lot of use on the trail so most of the obstacles have rocks piled around them to make it easier to get through and you shouldn't need a winch. You can usually make the entire trip by June, just depends on snowfall though. The best time is Fall after a little rain but before the snow, when the days are still relatively long. If you only have one day you can get to Rubicon Springs and back to Loon without too much trouble. If there are others in NorCal that want to run it we should plan something for sometime next Summer

That sounds like a fun ride. Keep us posted if you get a ride together. If Larry can come to Moab twice a year some of us from UT should be able to go hit the Rubicon

So have we put this ride together yet? Dates?

I'll start the ball rolling and throw out some dates. How does September 18/19 2009 look for the Rubicon? We can start on the Tahoe side so those coming in from the East don't have to drive as far(see how I sacrifice Kyle). Sorry Kevin, that adds a little more drive for you.
If anyone wants to stay another day on the 20th we can attempt Fordyce trail. I say attempt because water release from the damn dam dictate our success. PG&E has a tentative flow of 5 CFM starting in mid September, anything above 150 CFM can make the creek crossings a little dicey, anything over 200 CFM and you had better have pontoons.
