Re: 08 RZR Transmission Problem

I bought a used RZR earlier this year.  Sometimes I have had problems getting it into gear or into park.  I have heard that this is somewhat normal but this weekend I got stuck in park.  When I finally got it into gear it whined and blew the transmission.  There was a small hole underneath the case.  I took it to the dealer and they said they have never seen this before.  I heard of a possible recall but nothing surfaced since.  It is an expensive repair...$2500.  Anyone seen this?  Heard about a possible recall?  Have any ideas on doing it cheaper?  Thanks for your help.  Mike

Re: 08 RZR Transmission Problem

I have not heard of many transmission problems with Polaris products and have not heard of any recalls, they all seem to work well, the earlier XP transmissions had straight cut gears and they were a little noisy, they latter went to using some helical gears to make them more quite, the only reasons why they would not shift well would either be because the primary clutch is not fully disengaging, to high an idle, the adjustment or alignment of the transmission from the engine, to tight of a drive belt, or the use of 90w gear oil instead of the use of Polaris oil or transmission fluid in the gear case, again yours may have had a rare manufacture problem also, and maybe the other owner was shifting the gear case when the vehicle was moving, they are only to be shifted at a full stop, this will destroy a Polaris gear case, sometimes you can find gear cases on E-BAY for way cheaper, also you can look into who manufactures the transmissions for it, they are made by the DANA/SPICER corporation in Fredericktown, Ohio for the Polaris corporation.
