   My 2008 ranger XP with 35 hrs. on it 8 months old, is at a local polaris dealer in Phoenix Az. With a loud transmission noise, since new.Purchased from a dealer in Arizona. Which told me this is normal, now I come to find out that I have a transmission problem, which is obviously a manufacturing defect. Beware of Polaris at this time they do not want to honor said defect. This is going to cost me out of pocket roughly $1,600. For a transmission replacement, with a 2009 transmission. With a machine with no abuse. At this point I would buy any other UTV available on the market. Polaris is basically telling me tough luck. Some make noise and some don't. Shame on Polaris.

Man, sorry to hear about that. If they knew it was happening from the begining, why won't they honor warranty?

Curly, sorry to here about the problem, the problem with your transmission should not have have happened on a 2008 model and should be fixed under warranty, they redesigned the ranger transmission midway thru 2007 to make them quieter with some different parts for just this issue, the mid 2007 and earlier units are loud and that is normal for them, They should not need to replace the whole unit and should only replace the parts that are needed :!:  , I would really look into another dealer because some of the Polaris dealers out there are not worth a "Poo" and have no idea on what they are doing at all , yours sounds like one of them from what you have told me, also on one note, you are about one of 1% of the people with a ranger xp that has had this issue and it is not a common problem but there has been some and all of them have been fixed by a rebuild and upgrade and not a replacement, also I will say this again because it has happened to me and i caught this, (CHECK ALL YOUR FLUIDES BEFORE YOU RUN A NEW MACHINE FROM THEM OR ANY OTHER MANUFACTURE), Mine was off the show room floor and had no rear differential Fluid and it would have done the same thing :!: , also there has been old stock that has been used on newer machines and this could also be the case too.

Sorry about the late response, as I just now picked up my Xp From Iron City in Phx az. With problem solved, $1550.00 out of my pocket, to replace transmission with a 2009 unit.Polaris says tough luck!! P.S. old transmission with 35 hrs use burnt the transmission oil to a crisp, which polaris says is normal and denied a claim. My machine is the way it should of been in the first place, after spending my time and money to resolve an on going problem, with transmissions in the 2007-2008 models that polaris should honor. At this point I suggest anyone thinking of purchasing a Polaris, check into warrenty, read the small print!!!! Before purchasing a Polaris UTV.  The warranty sucks....   Try to get a hold of them, good ,luck!!!!!!

This is a prime example of a bad dealer and not a good dealer, every transmission i have heard of was repaired or replaced under warranty unless the problem was inflicted by owner negligence, not to say this was the case but there is to little info on your problem for me to make an honest judgment if the transmission failure was a factory problem and not owner negligence, at 35 hours any good dealer would have fixed it, I am very curious on what the cause of the failure was that prevented a warranty repair of this unit and why everyone else has had there's fixed with almost no problems, it just does not make sense, It is a shame that you did not read my earlier post before spending the money because it would have been fixed by some other dealer free of charge with out any problems, and again it is a shame that your dealer put you through this, I do understand that Polaris corporate has a very bad problem when you go to them direct and they always push you off back to the dealers, i have had problems with this with them in the past and it is my number one complaint with them.

A little late now but some guys have remedied the noise by changing the fluid in the trans to a heavier fluid. Hearing that yours was burned reinforces that for me. I'm using a 5W/30 thats designed for tractors transmissions and yet to have any problems or noises

Thanks for the response, but my transmission noise was bad from day one!!! My ranger has basicly been used by my wife and two little dogs for garage sales and neighborhood romps. The transmission noise has been getting progressivly worse and I was told by selling dealer in Cottonwood Az that my Polaris was not my fathers BMW. I am 54 yrs old and build and own street rods drive a truck and run heavy equipement for a living, an my father never had a BMW.Was kind of insulted by this. The moron had no interest in my problem. I want to finally use the Polarias for gold prospecting in northern Az. I could not take a chance going deep in the hills and have a transmission fail. Before I took my machine to Iron City in Phx az, I took it to a non dealer Polaris repair shop in Peoria Az.That said without a dought I had a bad transmission. My self or any body that I am involved with hopefully will never never never purchase a Polaris ever again. Due to their bad warrenty representation.P.S. my old transmission that supposedly nothing is wrong with is up for sale for $400.00!!!! What a buy   :x
