Re: 07 660....wanna move the air intake under the hood

Has anyone moved the air filter location on an '07 under the hood ? Mine has a K&N cold air intake system in the console.......sucks way too much dust.....new Lexx exhaust system from RMATV....CDI box....27" ITP XTR's...also dust in cab ? Has 1/2 windshield...will a rear plastic window reduce dust ? TIA......

Re: 07 660....wanna move the air intake under the hood

I did. Initially just snorkeled it

http://www.sidexsideforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=683

but I have since moved the air box to the front under the hood. Had to adapt hose the carb, but was able to come straight off the front of the engine. Much cleaner engine compartment and filter stays clean longer.
Rear window will trap the dust.

badley and I have the same setup. I did find a 08 airbox off of ebay that doubled the air filter size. If you need to you can contact me to take a look.

A half windshield is the best at limiting dust. I have never been able to prevent it either.

Re: 07 660....wanna move the air intake under the hood

ANYTHING works with a big enough saw and hammer. lol

I would have to see the system, the key would be mounting location and try to keep the hose to a minimal length. Recommend mounting or deciding how to mount the intake before doing anything else and make sure the tunnel doesn't poke holes in the tubing roll a lot of water can be sucked through a small hole...FAST! (I KNOW) I have actually turned on a lathe ABS and PVC fittings to make it work if you need help.

Re: 07 660....wanna move the air intake under the hood

I am running the stock air box w/K&N located right in the middle of the upper frame rails in front of the fire wall. I am also running about a foot of hose to the grill on the intake side. Fasttrax bought an 08' airbox which has a much bigger filter than his 06' or my 07'.

Re: 07 660....wanna move the air intake under the hood

Moved the filter under the hood....an open no box K-N w/sock..but carb turned out to be way rich...I'm at 5900' elevation....pulled the carb off and found a 170 main & 40 pilot...so off to the shop and brought home a 155 main & 45 pilot....1 1/2 turns out with the A/F screw & dropped the new jets in and fired it up and now it runs strong...no flutter at any rpm...great improvement over stock filter location on the '07 660 Rhino..... big_smile

Re: 07 660....wanna move the air intake under the hood

keep in touch about this.  I ended up going with a 45 pilot, 142.5 main and around 1 7/8 out. I run here in salt lake and feel good with it right now, always interested in combo's for this elevation.
My stock size from Steadmans in tooele came with a 140 and was marked 140 on the breather as well, go figure! roll

Found this in a new cataloge from Chaparral. It doesnt have any sizes listed but track down a few of the listed atvs you should be able to get a good idea if it would work in a rhino. Or maybe the company could help out also.   Hope this is some help.
