Turn stock tail lights into turn signals (blinkers)

So befor I found out that the state of Maine would not let a Rhino become street legal I was looking into geting turn signals hooked up, now since it would be a waste of money I thought I might as well share the plan I had come up with for my tail lights.

You can get a converter for trailer lights. what it does is turns brake lights into turn signals, brake lights will still work like normal but it seperates the turn signals left from right. (so both lights dont blink at the same time) but still alows for the use of hazard lights. This would be simple to use on a side x side and it shows how to wire it right on the converter it self, this would save hooking up and mounting an extra set of lights on the rear just for blinkers.
This is a very small box and is only about 1/2 inch thick, water tight and comes with 3M tape to hold it in place. I got one about 10 years ago for a trailer and it still works great. I think it cost around $20-$30.

I think this turn signal switch has the converter built in but will take a little more time and wiring to install.

Pending on model of turn signal like is pictured they are designed to allow the brake light to work as a turn signal. Utah's original code was amber turns on the rear, later changed since a lot of vehicles have only red on the rear now from the factory.

The LED setup from Ruthless motorsports is easier to use than the somewhat bulky look of the large signal application that I currently run on mine. I just need to change out the switch.

Good point on the amber lights no need for this if amber lights are needed. I was just thinking it would look cool to use the stock tails for turn signals. less lights and wires to damage could be a good thing when your out in the ruff.

I would have moved the day I found out Maine was not legal :cry: if I had the cash flow to do so.

Many (Most?) of the manufacturers offer a street legal kit to convert to turn signals because sideXsides are street legal in many countries especially third world. I know Kymco has them for their ATVs (Fits some Artic Cat Models) and UXVs. The kit splits the rear lens into half amber. You might want to check with your dealer.

Just be aware of the cost of buying a kit from a dealer. (not after market) just manufacturer kits. It can be done with heavy duty parts for less $.
