Re: 1999 6x6 problem

I'm working on a '99 6x6 for a guy that the rear axles are locked up on.
I've traced the problem to either the midaxle or rear of trans.  His story is he was trying to pull a tree, heard a pop and both rear axles were locked up. Front axle is free and will try to pull vehicle. Just wondering if anyone here has seen this before.  I haven't started tearing it down yet.  Thanks in advance.

Re: 1999 6x6 problem

I need a little more info here. when you put the back up on jack stands and the transmission in neutral and in one wheel drive or two wheel drive can you spin the rear wheels by hand :?: . As of now i am thinking it is one of the rear diffs. Pull the drive shaft off the transmission and re-test  . I personally don't think it is the transmission as of now and i have not heard of this problem as of yet.

Re: 1999 6x6 problem

With it up on jackstands in neutral you can't spin any rear wheels, the fronts spin free though.  I haven't pulled the rear drive shaft yet, but I have found that trying to turn the rear wheels the rear driveshaft will try to turn, I therefore believe that the problem is with the mid-drive assy. most likely.  Just wondering  if anyone had seen it before so I could get a better idea before I tear it apart as to what is wrong.  Thanks for the reply.
