So I wanna add some performance mods to my new Rhino...
Anyone out there adding stuff to their Rhino's to boost performace? What kinda mods are you doing? What performance increases are you seeing?
Exhausts, jet kits, air filters, CDI boxes, engine work, etc. etc. Lemme know what I can do to go FASTER.

Get a cdi and clutch sheave and you should be 58 mph on dirt. After that it depends on how much money you want to spend porting , big carb or bored out carb, intake, cam, big bore kit etc etc

we have a clutch sheave, CDI box, and supercharger that should get you a little happier with your Rhino performance. Check them out at www.ironrhinodesign.com or pm me for more info.

The best thing you can do for a Rhino, and possibly the cheapest also, is to have it tuned on a dyno that has the ability to read Air/Fuel ratio. When we first picked up our Rhino, the first thing we did was strap it to the dyno and get some numbers. We found that rhino's are pretty lean from the dealership, and decent performance gains can be seen and felt without breaking the bank.
We had our stock, and I mean stock rhino, able to mob the dunes in glamis, and it has a full cage with a back seat.
If you plan on modifying and adding performance parts, be sure to budget in a tune at a local Dyno tuning facility. It will ensure you get the most bang out of your hard earned bucks.

I tune on a dyno, not by what the manufacturer suggests

What size main jet did you end up running after you had it on the dino? Did you change the pilot jet also? I am at 700' elevation. Other than an Dyna Tek ignition, it is stock. Thanks

Read all the posts on this subject and agree that the dyno effort is well worth it...well but after one does it everyone can benefit!!!LOL...heres my take... first of all if your rhino has an elec. dash
it shows Kilos per Hour ...not Miles per hour...lets get this straight right from the start...just so we are on the same page...but for the sake of argument doesnt matter what its called...just that it improves..right?...
ignition box...best 2 bills spent...goes from 41 to 46..with stock tires on the highway...flat..no hills....Jet kit...and K&N filter..stockairbox...
use the dyno jet kit...its made to work with the filter... use the 165 main jet...drill out air screw plug...turn it out 1 full turn...turn the idle down to less than 1000 rpms..very important because it will be very VERY hard to shift into gear if you dont..remove 3 allen screws from exhuast and with a small die cutter grind th weld that holds th spark arrester..you will be reusing it ..hack the inside of the pipe flush with th plate..before reinstalling the cap and spark arrester take a sharp crow bar 1 inch in dia. or similar and pound it through the 2 baffles keeping in mind that you want the holes to line up with head pipe..really unchokes it without making it ANY LOUDER..56.....remove the manifold and cut the runner
out from the floor..blend it into side walls in a line of sight type method..
yes remove it completly..leave rough cutter finish...dont try to make the manifold bigger.. 72...wow...that is with NO clutch mods and yes it will do 68 with ITP 14 in paddles on the sand hwy at glamis.. do yourself a favor
and relocate the fuel filter from behind the fuel pump and put it under the seat..just switch the hoses short for long...thats 72 on the pavement with only couple hours work..$270 in parts...remember if it goes faster at night its because its TOO rich in the daytime...4 strokes like to be very lean...
slight grayish bluish color on a plug check after taking it to oldsmobile hill and back...brown is too rich...jet for best speed...
thats all for now...I put 3000 kilos on my SE with this setup...all full thottle runs through the dunes... David S&M Fabrication

Hey, first timer here. I've been a guest here for a couple of days. I have found some very good info, except for this one.

To think of all of the money that I spent on cdi, clutch, cam, carb, filter, RAIS, exhaust, so on, so on................and all I had to do was add the cdi and port my manifold to get to 72 mph. I am at about 58 now, so the manifold port should get me to 74 or 75mph. I won't hold my breath. 60 wouldn't be bad though.
Really, does this mod actually help anything?

1.) CDI box. Use anything but Procom
2.) Aftermarket sheave
3.) Look into clutch kits for your specific use. Duner kits, big wheel kits what ever.
3.) Open up the exhaust some. DO NOT REMOVE THE SPARK ARRESTOR!
4.) K&N or Uni Air filter will help some but will also extend the life of your motor over the nasty stock filter.
5.) Buy or borrow an air fuel meter set up and get your jetting right! I thought mine was jetted good until I purchased the meter and actually got it right. I picked up 3 mph by simply cleaning up my jetting.
6.) Higher compression piston stock bore or 686 (if you have a 660) You can go to about 11 to 1 on premium pump gas.
This is a good start. As usual speed you achieve is directly related to how thick your wallet is!

:
I have a Procom and think it does what it is supposed to. What is the best box out there? How much difference between it and Procom? I notice that in pictures, the part number stamped on my Procom is the same as stamped on some of the other boxes, telling me that they are just overpriced. Any opinions on the best box?

Our group has had three of the pro com boxes and all three are about impossible to start when the weather gets cold. As well 2 died with in 6 months and the other was trash canned before that one left us stranded as well.
I have a dynatech box now and it works great. Hunter works has a good box I hear but have not tried it.
