What is the best way of getting another set? Is there somewhere to trade?

I am sure Jared can help at Ruthless Motorsports if you need the plastic......

#332 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Polaris Ranger 800 HD » 2010-04-27 10:10:09

The ranger will do anything that the kubota will do. The two things the Polaris will do better is get you there faster and the suspension is a lot better for transversing obstructions  . They are both good machines and I don't see any issues with the belt system as long as the maintenance is kept up. They are sealed in an enclosure to keep them dry and I have done stream crossings with no issues and load it down with chainsaws and a trailer to haul firewood out of the hills, for this I do make my own trails. Also the military use them as well........

In case I wanted a Hunting color?

As fare as I know the plastic is the same and maybe someone can confirm this......

CA is bankrupt... are they going to give you an IOU for that too lol

Most likely, It is very funny that they would suggest giving $1000 dollars for a truck that blue books from 10 to 25 thousand dollars depending on year. One part for a diesel truck cost more then $500 :!: .

Remember what Arnold Schwarzeneggers always says

Trust Me :!:  lol .

#336 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » RZR+trailer would be to tall for garage? » 2010-04-26 10:06:27

I am looking to buy a RZR or RZR-S and from what I can tell on top of a trailer I wouldn't be able to back them in my garage. Is there a common solution for this I don't know about? Like letting air out of the tires or unbolting part of the roll cage?

The average garage is normally to short to pull a trailer and Polaris into. How much is it off by :?: . You could remove the air from the trailer tires as well as the Polaris to gain room but that is a little hard on the tires. Another Idea is if you are a good metal fabricator and it is a small trailer replace the springs with an airbag system so you could raise and lower the trailer. If you are a good carpenter raise the garage door header and replace the door. That is about all i can suggest......

#337 Re: Ranger and RZR Performance Mods » What type of oil to use for Ranger 500 cc 2001 » 2010-04-26 09:56:02

There is some glitch in the automated system that won't let me. I tried numerous times on numerous visits but each time it says cc verification denied and there is nothing wrong with the cc's and I tried several in very good standing.

Also, the "Refunds and Cancellations Policy" link leads back to the "Side X Side Forum Advertising" page.  In other words, can't find that info.

I tried again today, same thing "Card authorization failed. Your order could not be processed."

I notified Mark about your problem as well as one that I have had problems with so expect a reply soon I hope.....

#338 Re: Ranger and RZR Performance Mods » What type of oil to use for Ranger 500 cc 2001 » 2010-04-25 17:14:41

I was not pushing Polaris oil, just telling him what the manual says.

Polaris oils are made for them by a custom bottler in Minnesota called LubeTech which blends, bottles and custom labels for a many Powersports and small engine oem's like Arctic Cat, Husqvarna and others.  The have names for their lube designed so as the consumer can not decipher just what the lube is and is a common equivalent.

I have many customers riding Polaris equipment, buddy has a 1999 6x6 he bought new, another had a 2004 crew.

I too read about the NAD case, when it was taking place. I get many of the trade magazines.

I completely agree with with what you said about what the manual says but i would rather recommend a much more superior oil like what you sell or Royal Purple, I personally run the Royal Purple 5w-40w because it is much easier to come buy for me then Amsoil now and I am not running anything below -30 deg F so the 0w would never be an issue in a warmer climate. As for the NAD, I never thought they were qualified enough to make the ruling they made and it had negative ramification's to all the oil industry. People really think now that If it says true or full synthetic on the bottle that they actually really get a synthetic oil in this country roll .

On another note, how would you like to become a site sponsor :?:   lol .

#339 Re: Ranger and RZR Performance Mods » What type of oil to use for Ranger 500 cc 2001 » 2010-04-25 11:40:45

Of course Polaris will say that you need to use there oil and that is just another way for Polaris to make more money from you. There is almost no difference between a 5w-40w motor oil compared to a 0w-40w oil except for the extreme cold weather rating. There is better oil out there then the Polaris stuff you can use. According to the Magnuson-Moss act  a manufacture can not force you to use there product over another. Also Polaris oil does not have an SAE/API rating and was never submitted it for testing with them, Polaris would have to pay for that rating but chose not to.

As for the Lawsuit and or ruling, It did open the door for other manufactures to use a group III base oils as well as some of the newer Mobile one products to cut cost. They do not use a true synthetic base oil but a modified mineral base stock. It is kind of funny that only in this country they are allowed to call a group III oil synthetic but in Canada and over seas they are not allowed to do so and must use a PAO or Ester base stock oil or remove the term synthetic off the label.

Btw, I have always known that Amsoil was a PAO IV oil as said in my earlier post.

This Is an Article from A person that has done a lot more research then I did and I have done years of it because of what I did semi-professionaly in the past .

In the late 1990s, Castro started selling an oil made from Group III base oil and called it SynTec Full Synthetic. Mobil sued Castro, asserting that this oil was not synthetic, but simply a highly refined petroleum oil, and therefore it was false advertising to call it synthetic. In 1999, Mobil lost their lawsuit. It was decided that the word "synthetic" was a marketing term and referred to properties, not to production methods or ingredients. Castrol continues to make SynTec out of Group III base oils, that is highly purified mineral oil with most all of the cockroach bits removed.

I also had read all the info that this case was put before the NAD as well.

I just wanted to add one last thing for the people that can't pass the test, the state will give you $500 for the repair of the truck roll and or give you $1000 if you turn it in to be crushed if you are interested to do so lol

#341 Re: The X Spot » Regarding New California Diesel Smog Laws.... » 2010-04-22 18:49:52

You made me nervous there for a minute  lol

Don't worry, I think it is only the first step till they go after the older ones as well  . They are already doing this in California below....

Vehicles in California with a GVW of more than 14,000 pounds are not subject to the biennial smog check. But, according to the environmental protection group ForceChange, they still operate under some of the toughest standards in the nation. In December of 2008, the California Air Resources board passed strict rules to clean-up big-rig pollution. Starting on January 1, 2011, truck owners will have to install diesel exhaust filters on their rigs. And beginning in 2012, owners will have to replace engines older than the 2010 model year on a staggered schedule through 2022. Not confirmed is that all inbound out of state trucks will need the retrofit as well to enter the state…

Dianne Feinstein pushed a law through California's Air Resources Board that now requires small engines under 50 hp to be fitted with catalytic converters beginning in 2008 - the state says such a move will reduce California's emissions from lawn and garden equipment by 50 percent, which would be the equivalent of taking one million cars off the road by 2010. As of now when I look through the northern tool catalog half the replacement engines listed as well as equipment can not be sold in California due to this law. I personally think this Law is another one of Feinstein’s usual bunch of B.S. ideas…..

It only goes back to 98...

I Looked at the wrong date, correction made  .

#343 Re: The X Spot » Regarding New California Diesel Smog Laws.... » 2010-04-22 11:36:08

As you may or may not know that California has started there new Diesel Smog Check program as part of Arnold's Schwarzeneggers plan to be on the forefront on controlling global warming, Obama is also looking at this type of program to federally implement in all states as well in the near future.

The current Plan in California starting April 1st is all Diesel trucks and cars 1998 to current 14.000 lbs GVRW and under will be required to have the bi-annual test and they will be looking at anything aftermarket that cold effect the trucks emissions standards. Below is the basic test that they claim takes only 15 min but was more then 45 min with three inspectors at the same time.

1. The inspector will look for any tuners, EGR modifications as well as removed catalytic converters also any air intake modifications that do not have an E.O. order. They will be checking numbers and any none legal Turbo modifications or replacements. The problem is that some of the manufactures have submitted equipment for testing but the state has been very slow on testing to release these E.O. orders.

2. The inspector will then Plug into the DTC port and check for trouble codes and make sure the EGR is working as well as other sensors that the truck requires.

3. The inspector will then do what is called a snap test to check for black smoke, this is done 3 times, the first two check to make sure that the truck does not smoke after it is back to idle for 10 seconds and the third is that if the truck plumes out a black cloud from 5 to 15 feet and last for over 3 seconds the truck will fail the test. At this time there is no Dyno run of the truck or any probe test available.

As of now this is a California Law but Obama has plans to make this national according to a Show I saw on PBS television, Here in California there was very little warning when this law was going into effect and they even sent us the renewal notice stating No Smog Required but held the check for six weeks as well as the tags and then had the nerve to send a notice stating that we in completed the paperwork and that a smog is now required with just 3 weeks left on the tags. Anyway this is info that you may or may not know and thought I would put it out......

#344 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » 4 to 5 lug conversion » 2010-04-22 10:38:18

has anyone used adapters to convert the factory 4 lug to a 5 lug jeep bolt pattern on a rzr s?

also, will 27.4 inch tires have a big affect on the handling of a rzr s?

thanks

I would be concerned about the rotating mass as the jeep tires and wheels would be a lot heavier. Also this would most likely require a drive belt system kit to set up the primary and secondary clutch for the added height and the rotating mass as well. It would also make it slower on acceleration from a dead stop and could effect top end speed......

#345 Re: Ranger and RZR Performance Mods » 2002 RANGER SNORKEL? » 2010-04-17 10:16:39

REPLY TO RANGERDALE--CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS??   THOSE ARE THE WORST, I USED TO LIVE IN CALIFORNIA,IN VENTURA COUNTY NEAR OXNARD,NICE AREA..NOW IN MICHIGAN..MISS THE WEATHER BUT NOT THE DMV OR POPULATION DENSITY OF THE AREA..BEST OF LUCK TO U ON UR TEST!! ANY MODS TO THE TRUCK?

Yes there was some mods, just after getting the injector problems fixed we then received the notice, they really blew it on this one because they sent the original renewal stating no smog required and then held the check and the tags for six weeks, with just 3 weeks till the registration was to expire they sent another notice that we incompleted the process and they now want the thing smogged now :x . It does have the banks six gun bundle and air intake, the air intake has the E.O. order but the six gun bundle does not at this time, according to my phone call to banks engineering they said they have submitted the paperwork to CARB for the E.O. orders but they are taking there sweet time to process them. They said the Exhaust is good as long as the Cat is installed but I will need to remove the Six Gun for the test. According to banks engineering the state has rushed this test program into law before they were ready, The whole thing is typical California government B.S  , It goes in for testing on Monday roll .

As for your vent lines I would extend them as high as possable
