Re: Polaris Ranger 800HD vs 800HO

What modifications have been done on the 2011 Ranger 800HO models that give them so much more power than the standard engine in my 2010 Ranger 800HD.  Are these modifications easily made to my unit?  I would appreciate all the information I can get on this subject.

Remove the restrictor plate at the throttle body. All 2010 Ranger Xp's also have a clutch limiter in the primary and removal of it will gain another 3 to 4 mph as well.....

Re: Polaris Ranger 800HD vs 800HO

Theres more to it than that because the 2010 xp has less power than the 2011 xp and theres no restrictor plate on standard xp's.

That is because 2011 rangers are under new EPA and carb laws and are running a new fuel management system. He was asking the difference between an HD and a HO model. The 2010 XP HO has around 8 more HP then the HD and crew models. You also need to re read my post because I never said that the XP had a plate. Only the crew and HD have the plate.....

Re: Polaris Ranger 800HD vs 800HO

I appreciate all the quick replies.  The manual does state that removing the plate voids the warranty, I guess that is just to cover their rump. Is any reprogramming necessary if the plate is removed, and how involved is the cutch adjustment. And finally why does Polaris put the restrictor plates in only the crew and hd. Thanks again guys, I am sorry for the compound questions I am new to the Polaris world.

I had a detailed answer for you but the site has a dumping issue and everything I wrote was lost and do not want to do it again so here is a brief answer   roll .

1) Any modification will void the warranty.
2) The Ecu Has the same programing and part number for all full size rangers in 2010 with the 800 engine so no reprogramming is needed.
3) The reason for the detune is a federal law to hold that model at 40 HP. The Xp that year has a different classification now.
4) The clutch limiter is just a sleeve and can be removed. I also recommend a clutch kit as well.
5) You can reinstall the plate before you need to take it back to the dealer for any warranty work, they will not know the difference   big_smile .

Re: Polaris Ranger 800HD vs 800HO

Can somebody post some pictures of the clutch modifications i need to do to my 10' hd after i removed my restrictor plate and the part number of the clutch kit and where I can purchase these parts.  I am thinking of having the dealership flash my computer to 11' XP Specs.  Any thoughts?  Will I get the 50 ponies?

I can not post pictures due to the fact that I did my clutch some years ago. To do the clutch kit you will need the tool to remove the primary clutch and the instructions are very clear on how to do the kit install from the manufacture. As for the limiter, it is easily removed during the kit install. As for the re-flash, I do not think the 2011 has the same ECU as the 2010 models and really you should re flash to the 2010 model because I think the 2011 model has a few less HP due to new EPA regulations imposed for 2011. There are many clutch kit manufactures and here is a few of them. As for the 50 hp you will need to do a little more then all this to get over the 50 hp mark. The one last main difference between the XP and the RZR engine is the RZR runs a hotter cam as well. Removing the restrictor only makes the HD/Crew engine have about the same HP as the XP engine.

www.bikemanperformance.com

I checked and the 2010 ECU are not the same ECU as the 2011. All 2010 ECUs are the same except for programing. 2010 Ranger HD and crews have shown no HP differences when flashed to XP software and run fine with the plate removed running the HD software. I you need to run the XP software it is recommended but not needed.......

Dirtydawg and or Bikeman are good engine people and can steer you in the proper direction on reflashing the ECUs and cam upgrades plus other improvements to make well over 75 HP naturally aspirated......
