Re: Marysvale to Moab

I mentioned this trip in another thread.

This is the basic route.  It appears to be around 300 miles.
I would like to do this in early spring but the high point of this trail is around 10,000 ft.
There are ways around this so I'm not concerned about snow stopping me.

Re: Marysvale to Moab

Looks like you got a little lost out on Blue Hills Rd. I think you're right, it might be a little iffy getting over to Koosharem in April. We've tried it a couple of times in May, and although fun, we only made it once. Still, with global warming and such, we might could do it. So Hanksville is out for halfway point?

Re: Marysvale to Moab

I think thats the Airport symbol on Blue hills road making it look like I was going is circles.

Hanksville would be about half way.   I'm going to check and see if we would be allowed to camp at Goblin Valley SP.
Can't imagine we would have problems.  If not we could camp at the base of Temple Mountain.

Re: Marysvale to Moab

I have tried to make it to Manning from Marysvale a few years ago and there was a good drift just to the south of it. that was after Memorial day. Could have winched it if I didn't have one after that too.

That is your stomping grounds and we can always get to Joseph and go around that way too. End of May would most likely be easier, it's is going to be a long snow season this year.

Are we camping yet?

Re: Marysvale to Moab

We tried it last year, right after the rally in Moab. 4 of us made it to about a mile from the reservoir, broke 1 winch out of 2, and way too long of a drift to keep at it seriously. 2 RZR's had to deadman behind my Rhino to drag the other Rhino out of a drift he tried to break through. Would have been fun to make it through for a Kosharem burger.  My son and I did it 2 years prior with just 2 of us, and met the FS gal down almost to Anderson Dairy turn off. She asked if we made it all the way through, we told her what it was like, and she turned around for home. Camped just below Beaver Lake trail turn off, in the thermal belt!!!

Golly, me too! Is there something big going on down there then? That would be a plus, cause it gets so dull and boring without something going on....... lol

Yup, just watching the snow pile up.

We've been wearing T-shirts during the days since the first of December. Finally have some precipitation coming through this week.

With that much snow is there doubt we can do this after the Rally?

Re: Marysvale to Moab

Yup thinking either in conjunction with the Rally or in the fall.

Too much snow right now.  Probably won't clear much before the Rally.
