Just tested my new intake mod and it works great. I can burn the tires from a dead stop on the blacktop. WOW what a difference! I did a combination of ideas from KIMMER, timw60, and 470LTZ. I tried to do this with the 2 1/2" electrictrical conduit but I couldn't make the bend.
Installed K&N directly on the throttle body boot with a piece of hose over the downstream side of the filter to expand it to 3"
Cut 3 1/2" hole in corner of bed with a hole saw.
Purchase 4 to 3" reducer
Took it down to the local muffler shop and they did the rest. Brackets and chrome tail piece.
Costs:
K&N Filter online $105.00
K&N Filter outer ware $37.00
4 to 3" reducer $28.00
Hose clamps $12.00
Pipe/hangers, and chrome tailpiece $122.00

My RZR is back and seems to run well (I went for a short ride at the dealer and then took it off the trailer). I have a break down of all parts replaced, 27 items long top and bottom end, and it took the service tech 9+ hours to rebuild it. Polaris and Action Motor Sports in Idaho came through for me. THANK YOU!!!!
History: My MFG warranty expired on 09/18/08, build date 03-14-08, and I took my unit in on 09-04-08 with 125 psi compression. Originally Polaris said they would only replace the top end which didn't seem right to me. I got my attorney involved and she sent in a letter of demand. At this point I don't know if it helped or not but I do have my RZR back. 2 days after my letter would have been received by Polaris the letter of the free filter came out and the 18 month extension of the MFG warranty. By the way, I talked with the service manager, and regional director, and service tech today about the 18 month additional warranty and no one has heard anything about it. My dealer, and regional manager, would like me to send them the post so they can find out how this warranty will work and for whom.
By the way, this also included a new throttle body boot and filter. Thank you Polar is for taking responsibility.

My service manager called me today and said Polaris authorized a new crank and bearings for the lower end. They had already approved the top end replacement last week. I don't know for sure if the letter from my attorney helped or if it was Polaris's decision to do what was right. I still am going to fight for the new boot, trottle body, and air intake housing.
I didn't contact your attorney for the class action suit because of the letter from Polaris and the 18 month warranty. Do you feel this is still necessary?
Excellent point on the air filter. I didn't look at the title to the column closely enough, sorry. As far as the number I will call this week to put my name on the list as long as it is for the RZR.
I went to see my dealer today and my engine is on their floor to be torn apart. The service manager will send pictures to Polaris regarding the lower end. I also got a copy of the letter my attorney sent to the Polaris home office. I will keep you posted on what happens.

[From what i see that is for RZRs only with the air box problem.]
Why did you say that filter was only for the RZR with the air box problem. What have you done to avoid the dirt in your motor?
The dealer will be tearing my lower end down tomorrow to take pictues for Polaris. I already had an attorney I contacted prior to your numbers. I still have it and more than willing to get more than one involved if it becomes necessary and my attorney sent the first letter today. There are 3 other RZR's in the dealers yard for the same conditions.
Here is a link for a free air filter from Polaris for all units build before September 2nd.

I found this on the RZR forums.net
Thanks for the update again and the attorney. We all will appreciate it.

Thanks for the update. I have posted multiple times on PRC, Side by side, and Polaris RZR forum. What I have seen from all of the posts regarding the new design will work for me. The problem I have at this time is the engine/air box, etc. Even if I get the top end replaced, the lower end still has all the dirt issues and I don't have any changes to my air box/filter/throttle body. I may be looking at this wrong but to me the engine is not worth spending a ton of money out of my pocket. It's like trying to bail water out of the Titanic, it was still going to sink no mater what they did to it. What I really want to find out is if someone got their engine replace and then the new filter/tb, etc combo; and if so, what have they done to make this happen. We need to stick together where we are all having the same issues.
[O.K. there has been apparently been a problem with the RZR air boxes and the sealing design with them, Polaris has a warranty fix for the problem and you should call and take it to your dealer for the fix. make sure that your dealer looks into the warranty repair from Polaris themselves since not all Polaris dealers are on the ball with things with these machines, They will need to change out some parts for a new design]
My dealership does not know of anything. I did you find out about this and pleaseeee give me specifics. Polaris came back yesterday and said they would only replace the top end of my engine. I am not going to take this because they have not fixed the problem of dirt getting past my filter and into the engine. They will not consider, atleast at this time, an engine replacement and a new filter/throttle body/airbox combination. I have contacted my attorney.
I will keep you posted what I find out.
I have an 08 Polaris RZR which I took ownership of 03-19-08. The dirt getting past the OEM filter is unbelievable. I will include several links to pictures I have taken, including a video of the oil changed out of my RZR. Please take notice of the dirt in the bottom of the milk jug. My unit is in the dealer as I write this getting the top end removed for Polaris. Please check out your unit.
